City Jubilee with City Wall Run, 10 Stages, Festival Parade, Medieval Market, and Punt Rides — Free Admission
Luckau, with around 9,500 inhabitants, is the main town of a historically significant part of Lower Lusatia, and was first mentioned in documents in 1276. In 2026, the city will celebrate its 750th anniversary — a historic occasion for an exceptionally extensive festival weekend. Luckau is known for its completely preserved city wall (one of the best in Brandenburg), its medieval market square with the town hall, St. Nicholas' Church, and the former Dominican monastery.
The festival weekend spans three days and uses the historic old town as its stage. Friday, June 12th: Kick-off with the City Wall Run for all age groups — challenges and historical stations along the city wall, with prize drawings. 6:30 PM Opening concert in St. Nicholas' Church. In the evening, parties on the market square and Schlossberg.
Throughout the weekend, 10 stages and venues will be spread across the old town: Market Square, Schloßberg, Schwarze Elster riverbank, St. Nicholas' Church, Dominican Monastery, City Wall stations, and several historic squares. The stages will feature a mix of concerts (classical, rock, pop, Schlager, folk), readings, theater, dance, and historical performances.
Three program points are at the center: the Festival Parade with historical costumes, floats, and associations, the Medieval Market with craftsmen, jugglers, and medieval music, and the Punt Rides on the Schwarze Elster river (a nod to the Spreewald tradition of the nearby Spreewald region). In addition, many citizens will open their courtyards, cellars, and gardens to festival guests — an unusual form of city celebration.
Luckau is the main town of the Dahme-Spreewald district and is located at the southwestern tip of the Spreewald. With the 2026 city jubilee, the town positions itself as a cultural center of Lower Lusatia — a three-day festival weekend that connects the city's history with the vibrant present of Lower Lusatia.
The 2026 edition is a major historical event. With the festival weekend from June 12th to 14th, Luckau celebrates its first documented mention in 1276, marking 750 years of documented city history. The combination of the City Wall Run, Medieval Market, Festival Parade, and stage program across 10 venues makes this weekend the most extensive city festival in the Lower Lusatia region.
Detailed program overviews with a list of all stages, concerts, and events will be published by the City of Luckau via www.luckau.de and in a printable PDF.
