In Luckau, in the district of Dahme-Spreewald, a traditional event marks the beginning of spring: the Luckau Garden and Plant Market, which will be held for the 25th time in 2026 on the LAGA parking lot on Südpromenade. Saturday, May 9, 2026 — a date to mark for everyone who wants to stock their beds and balconies for the new season.

LAGA Area as a Festive Backdrop

The LAGA parking lot is a reminder of the 2000 Luckau State Garden Show — a major urban development project that connected the historic old town with the city park and the palace grounds, leaving a lasting impact on the city. Today, the area between the old town wall and the city park is one of Luckau's most popular event venues — and once a year, the venue for the garden and plant market. Its location between the historic city wall and well-kept green spaces is ideal for a spring market focused on plants and gardens.

At the stalls, visitors will find the full range of a garden and plant market: perennials in many varieties — from old cottage garden classics to modern cultivars; herbs for cooking and medicinal purposes; vegetable seedlings (tomatoes, peppers, lettuce, pumpkins); berry fruits (raspberries, currants, gooseberries, blackberries); shrubs and roses; garden accessories (tools, pots, soils, composting aids); regional food products from Niederlausitz (honey, juice, cheese, sausage); arts and crafts with a garden theme (ceramics, wrought iron, woodwork). A plant exchange facilitates swapping and advice among hobby gardeners.

Luckau — the Lutherstadt of Niederlausitz

Luckau is one of Brandenburg's oldest cities — granted town rights as early as 1276 — and is known as the Lutherstadt of Niederlausitz. The historic old town with its late Gothic St. Nicholas Church, the Baroque palace, and the completely preserved city wall is one of the most beautiful ensembles in Southern Brandenburg. With around 9,600 inhabitants, Luckau is now a quiet small town in the Dahme-Spreewald district — the Luckau Old Town Night, the LAGA area, and the Garden and Plant Market are among the most important cultural highlights.

Anyone visiting the market should bring a cart for plants — a wagon, basket, or folding crate is advisable. The largest orders are placed by 11 a.m., and it gets more crowded around noon.
