Advent magic in the Peene town
With the Loitz Christmas Market, the small Hanseatic town on the Peene river upholds a charming tradition every year on the 2nd Advent weekend. Against the historical backdrop of brick Gothic and half-timbered architecture, the market street transforms into a small, very personal Christmas world – far from the hustle and bustle of big cities, but with plenty of North German warmth.
From the afternoon onwards, the stalls around the market open: regional beekeepers, woodcarvers, potters, candlemakers, and knitters from the Vorpommern-Greifswald district present their work. In between, the air is filled with the scent of bratwurst, Schmalzkuchen (lard cakes), roasted almonds, and hearty mulled wine. Choirs, brass ensembles, and dance groups from Loitz and the surrounding area take turns on the stage. Carousels spin for families, and carriage horses trot through the old town alleys.
A special feature: parallel to the town market, the Loitz Local History Association organizes its own Advent market at Peenestraße 8 with homemade cookies, stollen, homemade jams, and small gift items from Mecklenburg-Vorpommern. Both events are just a few steps apart and complement each other.
Loitz is located in the Vorpommern-Greifswald district in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, directly on the navigable Peene river. The town is known for its maritime character, its preserved old town, and an active club life, which is particularly evident during the Advent season.
On Saturday and Sunday of the second Advent weekend, Loitz once again invites you to the Christmas market in the market street. From 2:00 PM, the stalls with arts and crafts, regional gastronomy, and Advent specialties will open. Choirs, brass bands, and dance groups from the Vorpommern-Greifswald district will perform on stage. For families, carousels will be running, and carriage rides will take you through the old town. In parallel, the Loitz Local History Association at Peenestraße 8 will open its own Advent market from 10:00 AM to 5:00 PM with homemade goods and gift ideas.
The detailed stage program will be published shortly before the market on loitz.de.
