District Kirchweih in Nuremberg South with marquee and live music
Lohe is a district in the south of Nuremberg, an independent city in the state of Bavaria. Like many Nuremberg suburbs, Lohe has preserved its own identity – an important prerequisite for each of the around 40 district Kirchweihen to have its own character. The Loher Kirchweih is firmly anchored in the city's June calendar and has been a meeting point for residents and visitors from neighboring districts for generations.
The Kirchweih – Franconian 'Kärwa' – dates back to the consecration of the parish church. Today, it is a secular festival that makes every district celebrate its special day. In Lohe, the festival activities are concentrated around Loher Hauptstraße at the corner of Lohestraße, where the marquee, carousels, and catering stands are set up. The Nuremberg City Property Management Office coordinates the permits and dates for all Kirchweihen – but the content is organized by local clubs and showmen.
The marquee offers a varied music program – from brass band music during the morning pint to cover bands and DJs in the evening. Plus Franconian catering: Bratwürste (sausages), Schäuferla (pork shoulder), draft beer, Steckerlfisch (grilled fish on a stick), and of course the Franconian Krapfen (doughnuts), which are a must at every Kärwa. Carousels and stalls complete the family offerings.
The Nuremberg Kirchweih season, with around 40 district Kirchweihen, is the most concentrated in all of Bavaria – a vibrant expression of how the formerly independent villages and suburbs around Nuremberg have preserved their own festival traditions beyond their incorporation into the city in the 20th century. Loher Kärwa, Fischbacher Kärwa, Mögeldorfer Kärwa, Schniegling, Eibach – each has its own profile.
From June 19 to 22, 2026, the Loher Kirchweih takes place at its usual location on Loher Hauptstraße / corner of Lohestraße. As every year, the Nuremberg City Property Management Office coordinates the permits; catering and the music program in the marquee are handled by showmen and local clubs.
