Grand city festival celebrating the Hat City of Lindenberg in the Allgäu region – featuring a hat market, fashion show, and Sunday shopping.
For decades, Lindenberg in the Allgäu region was one of the most important centers of the German hat industry. The Lindenberger Huttag commemorates this special history, transforming the city center into a festive hat promenade once a year. The German Hat Museum is the focal point, offering guided tours, hands-on activities, and special exhibitions for this occasion.
At the large hat market, milliners from all over Germany and the Netherlands present their creations – from elegant hats for special occasions and summer models to traditional accessories. The highlight is the fashion show on the town square, where the latest hat creations are showcased.
Every two years, the German Hat Queen is elected at the Huttag – a special highlight that underscores Lindenberg's role as the Hat City. A jury of prominent figures selects the new representative who will champion the hat-making craft for two years.
Live music creates a festive atmosphere on several stages – from the town band to funk, soul, and rock'n'roll. On Sunday, shops in Lindenberg open with special offers. A May market, amusement rides, and a children's flea market complete the program.
Lindenberg in the Allgäu is located in the Lindau district of Bavaria, in the hilly West Allgäu region near Lake Constance and the Austrian border. The Huttag combines the city's industrial past with a lively city festival atmosphere, attracting visitors from the entire Lake Constance region.
For its 25th edition on May 10, 2026 (11:00 AM–6:00 PM), the city center of Lindenberg, around the German Hat Museum, will once again transform into a stylish hat promenade. Milliners from Germany and the Netherlands will present elegant hats for special occasions, summer models, and traditional accessories at the large hat market. The fashion show will take place on the town square. A special highlight is the election of the German Hat Queen 2026/27, as the term of the current Hat Queen Nicole Schmitz-Bernt ends. Live music will be performed on three stages: starting at 11:00 AM, the town band near the town hall, "Groove Department" with funk and soul, "The Tuesday Four" with rock'n'roll, and the duo "Lenz & Friend" at the museum. Sunday shopping runs from 12:00 PM to 5:00 PM. A May market, amusement rides, and a children's flea market complete the program.
By car via the A96 (exit Weiler-Simmerberg) into the West Allgäu. By train to Röthenbach (Allgäu), then by bus to Lindenberg.
Entry to the Huttag and the hat market is free. Regular admission prices apply for the German Hat Museum.
