Traditional three-day Letztmarkt with barrel organ competition and flea market at the end of the October season
The Wittmunder Letztmarkt proudly bears its name: it is the last major market event of the year in the East Frisian small town. It marks the end of the market season – a season finale traditionally celebrated with a special accent. From October 30th to November 1st, 2026, over the last weekend of October, Wittmund's city center transforms into a festival mile for three days.
What makes the Wittmunder Letztmarkt special is its Barrel Organ Festival. Barrel organ players from all over Germany gather in the town, filling the pedestrian zone with historical sounds. The mechanical musical instruments – artfully decorated, often with their own stories and origins – are not just instruments but living cultural heritage. Strolling through the city center, you'll be accompanied by changing barrel organ soundscapes.
Parallel to the Barrel Organ Festival, a large flea market takes place in Wittmund's pedestrian zone. Private individuals and commercial dealers offer a wide range of goods – antiques, bric-a-brac, collectibles, clothing, toys. The flea market attracts a broad audience and is one of the largest seasonal flea market dates in East Frisia.
For the youngest visitors, there is a children's carousel and other small showman attractions. This makes the Letztmarkt an event that appeals to multiple generations and is firmly anchored in the family program.
With the Letztmarkt, the market season closes for Wittmund. What began in the course of the year with the Bürgermarkt, Schützenfest, and Schnüstermarkt finds its conclusion here. The combination of barrel organ sounds, flea market atmosphere, and the last sunny autumn weekend lends the event a melancholic yet festive character that distinguishes it from other Volksfeste.
The Letztmarkt combines two traditions: the classic fair with showman attractions and the Barrel Organ Festival, which makes Wittmund a meeting point for mechanical music art once a year.
The event falls on the last weekend of October, a time of golden autumn days – ideal for a stroll through the historic city center.
