Lechhausen's Grand Volksfest
In Augsburg's Lechhausen district, located east of the Lech river, the Lechhauser Kirchweih is celebrated every October — one of the oldest and most popular district festivals in the Fuggerstadt. For nine days, the festival grounds on Klausstraße host a classic Volksfest with a large Festzelt (festival tent), showmen, and an amusement park stretching from the intersection of Brunnenstraße along Klausstraße.
The Kirchweih Parade
The highlight is the grand Kirchweihumzug (parade), organized by ARGE Lechhausen. The procession starts at Marienplatz and leads through Stätzlinger-, Blücher-, and Brunnenstraße to the festival tent on Klausstraße. Traditionally, clubs, traditional costume and music groups, as well as the Lechhausen Trachtenverein (traditional costume association) and the Trachtenkapelle Lechhausen (traditional costume band) march through the district.
Festival Tent and Amusement Park
Inside the festival tent, various bands and party groups provide entertainment — from folk music and Schlager to Oktoberfest atmosphere. The amusement park offers carousels, rides, and food stalls for all ages. As the Lechhauser Kärwa is one of the last major beer tent festivals of the year in the region, it is considered the traditional end of the Augsburg beer tent season.
Market Sunday in Lechhausen
The Kirchweih is accompanied by a shopping Sunday Marktsonntag in Lechhausen, where the district's shops open and a street market along Neuburger Straße invites visitors to stroll — a well-attended highlight in Augsburg's autumn event calendar.
Discover Augsburg-Lechhausen
Lechhausen, with around 30,000 inhabitants, is one of Augsburg's largest districts. The Fuggerstadt Augsburg, with its town hall, Perlachturm tower, Fuggerei, and the UNESCO World Heritage historical water management system, is quickly accessible from Lechhausen by tram — a visit to the Kirchweih can be easily combined with a city tour.
