Wine festival at Europe's steepest vineyard
Anyone visiting the Wine Festival at Calmont comes not just for a festival — they come for a location that is unique in the European wine world. The Calmont, which towers high above Bremm, is cultivated in its steepest sections with gradients of up to 65 degrees. What this means in practice is best understood when you hike up the via ferrata during the festival weekend and then raise a glass in the valley: here, wine is not just drunk, but celebrated as the fruit of almost extreme manual labor.
Bremm is picturesquely situated in a loop of the Moselle river between Cochem and Zell. The village is one of the most important wine-growing areas in the Untermosel and is also home to a vibrant festival culture. The Wine Festival at Calmont combines these two aspects: wine-typical tastings and encounters with the winemakers on the one hand, and a convivial village festival with a marquee, parade, and crowning ceremony on the other.
Highlights of the festival weekend include the grand parade on Saturday, where clubs, floats, and traditional costume groups march through the decorated village, as well as the festive crowning of the new Bremm Wine Queen. A special feature of Bremm is the Wine Olympics — a humorous, sporty, and playful competition where teams from clubs and guest groups compete against each other in wine-related disciplines. On Sunday morning, the communal breakfast buffet at the festival grounds invites a cozy start to the day — a tradition that brings the village together.
The wines come exclusively from the Bremm winemakers and their neighbors in the Calmont slopes. The focus is on Rieslings with remarkable minerality, Pinot Noir from the sun-exposed slate slopes, and regional sparkling wine specialties.
The 2026 Wine Festival in Bremm extends from Friday, September 4th, to Sunday, September 6th. The festival grounds are located directly on the Moselle riverbank and offer ample space for the marquee, winemakers' stalls, and food vendors. The program focuses on a mix of wine-typical tastings, a convivial village festival, and some Bremm specialties like the Wine Olympics.
The wines come from the Bremm wineries and their neighbors in the Calmont slopes. The top Rieslings from the steepest plots are a particular draw for wine lovers from across the region.
