Jazz under the open sky in the Augsburg Botanical Garden
The Internationaler Augsburger Jazzsommer has been a fixture in the Southern German jazz scene for decades. Organized by the Augsburg City Cultural Office, the festival brings internationally acclaimed musicians to the Fuggerstadt every summer. The main venue is the Augsburg Botanical Garden, whose lush greenery provides a unique open-air backdrop; further concerts take place in the Brunnenhof in the Zeughaus.
The program combines styles from modern jazz to mainstream and experimental sounds. Artists include world stars such as guitar legend Bill Frisell and trumpeter Jeremy Pelt. The concerts are usually played without an intermission and last around 80 minutes – a concentrated, intense listening experience under the open sky.
At the Botanical Garden, admission begins in the early evening, with concerts starting at dusk. Tickets are offered in three price categories. The combination of first-class music and the special atmosphere of the garden is what makes the festival so appealing.
The independent city of Augsburg in the Swabia administrative region is one of Germany's oldest cities. The Jazzsommer is part of the "Augsburger Stadtsommer," a series of cultural events that shape the city's summer cultural life.
The 34th Internationaler Augsburger Jazzsommer runs from July 8 to August 12, 2026. The festival opens on July 8 with US trumpeter Jeremy Pelt and his all-star rhythm section. On July 15, guitar legend Bill Frisell performs with his trio, expanded to a quartet with guest saxophonist Gregory Tardy. Admission to the Botanical Garden begins at 6 p.m., concerts start at 8 p.m. and last around 80 minutes without intermission. Tickets for the Botanical Garden are offered in three price categories (€36, €32, and €26 plus fees).
