30 years of cultural festival in the Stadtgarten — concerts, cabaret, artistry in two circus tents
From July 22 to 26, 2026, Sommerpalast Murrhardt will celebrate its 30th season. Since 1996, the festival has transformed the Stadtgarten on Walterichsweg into an open-air stage — with two circus tents as the main venues, around 50 international artists, and approximately 500 volunteers who make the festival possible every year. This makes Sommerpalast one of the largest and longest-running cultural festivals in the Rems-Murr district.
Freshlyground: The South African band, known worldwide for their World Cup song "Waka Waka" (with Shakira), opens the 30th season with their mix of Afro-pop, folk, and world music.
Circusverein Neumarkt — Children's Circus Performance (Sold Out)
Django 3000: The Bavarian folk-rock band from Chiemgau plays the closing night with hits like "Heidi" and "Tom Hagen".
In addition to the ticketed concerts on the Palast stage, the Feuerlounge — a stage with free admission — complements the festival grounds around the main tents. Confirmed acts 2026:
The Feuerlounge also offers catering and makes the festival accessible to guests without a concert ticket.
Sommerpalast emphasizes inclusion: The children's circus performances by Circusverein Neumarkt are free for refugee children and children from low-income families — teachers and caregivers also get in for free. With around 500 volunteers, the festival is also one of the most strongly community-supported cultural events in Southern Germany.
With around 14,000 inhabitants, Murrhardt is located in the northeastern Rems-Murr district on the edge of the Swabian-Franconian Forest. The city is a World Heritage site: the UNESCO-recognized Limes — the northern border of the Roman Empire — ran through here. The former Benedictine monastery of Murrhardt with the Walterichskapelle is one of the most beautiful Romanesque-Gothic monastery ensembles in Southern Germany. The Stadtgarten on Walterichsweg, used for Sommerpalast, is just a few minutes from the city center.
From July 22 to 26, 2026, Sommerpalast Murrhardt celebrates its 30th anniversary. Five days of programming in two circus tents in the Stadtgarten — concerts, comedy, variety, circus, and DJ sets. Around 50 international artists and ~500 volunteers support the festival.
The Palast stage opens on Wednesday with Freshlyground and closes on Sunday with Django 3000. The Feuerlounge offers free admission daily to concerts by Congo Cowboys, Tanga Elektra, Paper Moon Swing Combo, and others. Inclusion program: Children's performances are free for refugees and low-income families.
