The Delbrück Advent Market — Kick-off to the Advent Season in the Paderborn District

On the first Advent weekend, November 28th and 29th, 2026, the historic Kirchplatz (church square) in Delbrück becomes the atmospheric stage for one of the most beautiful Advent markets in the Paderborn district. Over 30 festively decorated wooden huts frame the Romanesque parish church of St. Johannes Baptist, illuminating the square with a warm glow and offering for two days what makes a good Advent market: encounters, enjoyment, crafts, and music.

What Makes the Market Special — Atmosphere Instead of Commercialism

Unlike the big city Christmas markets, Delbrück consciously focuses on manageable size and personal atmosphere. The stalls are primarily run by Delbrück clubs, businesses, and organizations — many for charitable purposes. The program is family-oriented and relaxed: no commercial hustle and bustle, but a village square that becomes a festival ground. Organized by the Catholic Parish of St. Johannes Baptist and the DEMAG (Delbrück Marketing Association).

The Advent weekend begins on Friday evening, November 27th, 2026, with the traditional late-night shopping in Delbrück's city center: shops open in the evening, festive lighting, atmospheric music, and special promotions. The popular "Wine & Enjoyment in Delbrück" wine glass promotion returns: with a special collectible wine glass, visitors can sample wines and enjoy culinary snacks in several participating shops and restaurants — the ideal start to the Advent weekend.

Delbrück — the Largest Municipality in the Paderborn District

With around 32,000 inhabitants, Delbrück is the largest municipality by area in the Paderborn district — and at the same time one of the youngest towns in Westphalia (town status only since 1996). The town is located between Paderborn and Bielefeld, at the transition from the Münsterland to the East Westphalian Senne natural region. Besides the historic church square with the baroque-renovated parish church of St. Johannes Baptist, the numerous village centers of the eleven districts, the agriculturally characterized surroundings, and the nature reserves in the Senne are worth seeing.

The Paderborn district is located in the east of North Rhine-Westphalia and includes, in addition to the university city of Paderborn, Delbrück, Bad Lippspringe, Salzkotten, Büren, and other municipalities. The region is characterized by the Prince-Bishopric of Paderborn (historic Hochstift tradition), the extensive Senne landscape (one of the largest contiguous heath and forest areas in Northwest Germany), and the Hermannsweg long-distance hiking trail. In Advent, the numerous markets in the small towns and villages form a diverse range of events — the Delbrück Advent Market is one of the most visited and atmospheric.
