Second edition of the town festival with an asparagus theme, classic car rally, and Sunday shopping
Delbrück is located in the sandy Senne soil northeast of Paderborn – one of North Rhine-Westphalia's most important asparagus-growing regions. Here, asparagus is not an imported product but grows in the fields directly around the town. It's only logical that the Delbrücker Marketinggemeinschaft (DEMAG) celebrates this identity with its own town festival. The second edition in 2026 takes place on the weekend of May 30th/31st, right in the middle of the asparagus season.
The festival area is spread across two locations in the town center: the Sparkassen-Parkplatz (temporarily repurposed as the festival grounds during peak times) and the Grüner Platz next to the new town hall. Both are within walking distance, and with the St. Johannes Baptist parish church in between, they form a cohesive festival hub. Market stalls, stages, food stands, family activities – everything is within easy reach.
A highlight on Saturday is the classic car rally "Spargelrallye": participating vehicles start from Delbrück and drive through the Senne landscape, with stops at asparagus fields, hotels, and inns in the region. The rally is both a competition (with a classic roadbook task) and a showcase of historic automobiles – you can admire the vehicles in the morning before the start and after they finish in the town center.
Parallel to the town festival, the traditional bird shooting of the St. Johannes Schützenbruderschaft Delbrück, one of the town's oldest associations, takes place. The bird shooting, followed by the proclamation of the king, a shooting competition, and family activities, forms the traditional anchor of the weekend – the riflemen are also part of the parade through the town center.
On Sunday, Delbrück's retailers open their doors for Sunday shopping. Simultaneously, restaurants and food stands serve asparagus specialties: classic style with ham, hollandaise sauce, and new potatoes; modern interpretations as tapas, soup, risotto, or cocktail. If you want to taste Delbrück asparagus right from the source, this is the place to be.
Delbrück, with around 31,000 inhabitants, is a town in the Paderborn district, located on the border of the Senne nature reserve. The town has a large geographical area with 10 districts. Tourists benefit from its location between Bielefeld, Paderborn, and the Teutoburg Forest – those who want to combine asparagus enjoyment with hiking will find the Senne Nature Park in close proximity.
The 2026 edition builds upon the successful premiere in 2025. The organizer is the Delbrücker Marketinggemeinschaft e.V. (DEMAG), which aims to establish the event as an annual highlight in Delbrück's event calendar.
