Traditional Faasend-Umzug on Shrove Tuesday in Großrosseln, organized by KV Doll-Doll
Großrosseln is one of the Saarland municipalities with its very own identity: just under 8,000 inhabitants, directly on the French border opposite Petite-Rosselle, shaped by hard coal mining and cross-border life. It is precisely here that KV Doll-Doll Großrosseln e.V. has been cultivating a vibrant carnival tradition for decades. The club name "Doll-Doll" is onomatopoeic, a Saarland variant of the jester's rhyme – and symbolizes the playfulness that defines Faasend.
The actual parade takes place on Shrove Tuesday – that last day of the carnival season before Ash Wednesday, when Fasenacht reaches its absolute peak. In the Saarland and surrounding regions, Shrove Tuesday is the day for major parades in the carnival strongholds. In 2026, the Rossler Faasend-Umzug will parade through Großrosseln on Tuesday, February 17th – with themed floats, walking groups, guards, music clubs, and friendly carnival clubs from the Saarland and the neighboring Lorraine region.
The parade is the most visible highlight – but the Faasend season of KV Doll-Doll includes a much broader program in the Rosseltalhalle and the town center:
This season structure shows: Faasend here is not just weekend fun, but a three-week marathon that makes up a large part of club life.
As in any proper Saarland carnival town, KV Doll-Doll has its own "royal couple": Prince Berni I. with his court represents the 2026 season. This tradition is part of the preservation of Saarland carnival customs and is staged with the appropriate ceremonial effort – with a coronation, official appearances at sessions, and the handover of keys at the town hall.
Großrosseln shares its carnival spirit with the direct French neighboring municipality of Petite-Rosselle, which also celebrates carnival – albeit in the Lorraine style. The Greater Region Saar-Lor-Lux has an astonishingly dense carnival landscape in which Großrosseln plays an important role. Anyone who experiences the parade sees a living piece of Saarland tradition that is also a play on the border.
Exact program details (session proceedings, participating groups in the parade, performance times) will be published by the club in late autumn 2025 / January 2026. Current royals for 2026: Prince Berni I. with his court. Admission to the parade is free; hall events have separate admission prices.
