Advent Concert with a Show Character
The Rosseltalhalle in Großrosseln is the largest event hall in the western Saarbrücken regional association — located directly on the French border, in close proximity to Petite-Rosselle in Lorraine and the Saarland industrial monument Velsen. When the doors open there in mid-December, one of the region's most beautiful Advent traditions begins: the Christmas concert with the Gunni Mahling Show Ensemble.
Gunni Mahling — Saarland Show Master
Gunni Mahling, a native of Saarland and long-time SR presenter, has developed his own blend of classical Advent music, Schlager-Christmas, gospel, and show-like arrangements with his show ensemble. The orchestra accompanies soloists and choir through a program that includes traditional Christmas carols like O du fröhliche as well as modern classics à la Last Christmas or Bing Crosby's White Christmas.
Saarländischer Rundfunk SR3 as Partner
The concert is presented in cooperation with SR3 Saarlandwelle and Autohaus Deckert — a combination that gives the concert its slightly folksy, yet simultaneously professional and warm character. SR3 moderation, local advertising partners, and staging as a family event make the Christmas concert in Großrosseln a seasonal highlight that often sells out within days.
Program Between Tradition and Show
Approximately two hours of program are expected with about 20 songs, alternating between German and English, interspersed with anecdotes and presentations. Highlights regularly include solo performances by renowned Saarland vocalists, the White Christmas homage with artificial snowfall in the hall, and a joint final song with the audience.
