A Week of Augsburg Cycling Culture — Tours, Workshops, Competitions, Family Activities
The Augsburger Radlwoche is an initiative of the City of Augsburg and part of its mobility and climate protection strategy. Unlike a classic festival, it is a themed program week with numerous individual events taking place throughout the city. The program is created in close cooperation with the Augsburg cycling community (»Augsburger Radaktive«), sports clubs, schools, and local initiatives.
The program structure is deliberately diverse: guided bike tours through Augsburg and its surroundings, repair workshops for everyday cyclists, safety training for children and seniors, sporting competitions (e.g., cargo bike races or city championships), family cycling events like »Kleine Füße, große Straßen« (Little Feet, Big Streets) and the large school cycling parade. This mix appeals to all ages and skill levels — from the cargo bike-riding father to the road cycling athlete.
Augsburg is a relatively flat city on the edge of the Swabian Jura and is well-suited for cyclists. In the last ten years, the city has invested heavily in cycling infrastructure — cycle paths, bike routes, parking facilities. The Radlwoche serves as a showcase for this policy and, at the same time, a forum for the city's cycling community.
The Augsburger Radlwoche 2026 is the eighth edition since 2019. The format has become established and is now emulated by many other cities in Southern Germany. The program planning for 2026 will be published in mid-May and coordinated with the Augsburger Radaktive.
Augsburg is the capital of the Swabia administrative region (Bavarian Swabia) and the third-largest city in Bavaria after Munich and Nuremberg. With its Roman-medieval heritage and UNESCO-recognized water management system, it has a distinctive identity. The Radlwoche fits into this identity: a city with a long history that actively engages with its mobility future.
The Augsburger Radlwoche 2026 — the eighth edition since 2019 — brings the Augsburg cycling community together for nine days of diverse events. The program design follows a participatory approach: the City of Augsburg and the »Augsburger Radaktive« (local cycling community) develop the program together.
Themes include mobility and climate protection, traffic safety (especially for children), family cycling, repair know-how, and sporting competitions. The cargo bike competitions and the cycling parade of Augsburg schools are fixed program components and have been hallmarks of the Radlwoche for years.
By train to Augsburg Hauptbahnhof (main station) — an ICE hub, 30 minutes from Munich, 2 hours from Stuttgart. By car via the A 8 or A 7 motorways. For the Radlwoche, arriving by your own bicycle or by train is recommended — the city is easy to explore by bike.
Most Radlwoche events are free. Some workshops or guided tours require registration. Program and registration via the city's official website.
