Allgäu's largest running event at Kempten's Residenzplatz
The Laufsporttag Kempten – officially marketed as LST Super Sunday – is the largest running event in the Allgäu region. The start and finish for all routes is the Residenzplatz in the heart of Kempten's old town, directly in front of the baroque residence of the former prince-abbots. With around 2,600 finishers (as of 2023), the event is one of the larger public runs in Southern Germany.
The event offers four competitive distances for different performance levels:
Kempten, known as Cambodunum in Roman times, is documented as one of Germany's oldest cities. The route design takes advantage of this historical richness: starting at the Residenzplatz, passing through the old town (St. Lorenz, Mang Church), with turning points on the banks of the Iller and through the surrounding districts. The atmosphere along the routes is locally rooted – residents and clubs line the running course with music, encouragement, and small refreshment stands.
The Laufsporttag is part of the Laufsport-Saukel-Cup, a regional running series in the Allgäu. The event is organised by Sportgemeinschaft Sparkasse Allgäu e.V. in collaboration with Laufsport Saukel (Kempten's running sports shop) as the main partner. Timing is provided by Abavent.
The Allgäu is one of Germany's most popular running landscapes – with pre-Alpine panoramas, numerous trails, and an active trail running scene. The Laufsporttag Kempten marks the spring start of the Allgäu running season, making it the first season highlight for many hobby runners after winter. The routes are largely flat (city asphalt), allowing for fast times – the half marathon is often run with personal bests.
The 2026 Laufsporttag Kempten starts, as usual, on the last Sunday in April. All routes start and finish at the Residenzplatz in the centre of Germany's oldest city. The event is part of the Laufsport-Saukel-Cup and offers something for every performance level across four distances.
Timing is handled by Abavent. Registration online via the platform laufsporttag-kempten.de; late registration on the day of the event is possible to a limited extent.
Exact start times for each distance will be announced in advance on laufsporttag-kempten.de (typically Half Marathon 9:30 AM, Quarter Marathon 9:30 AM with joint start, 5000m Run later in the morning, KidsRun in the afternoon).
By train: Kempten (Hbf) station, from there approx. 10 minutes walk to the Residenzplatz. By car: A7 exit Kempten-Süd or Kempten-Nord, continue into the city centre – car parks at Residenzplatz and Forum Allgäu.
