City festival on the car-free Bahnhofstraße in the district of Stormarn
The Reinbeker Sommersalon is one of the regular summer events in the southeastern Hamburg metropolitan region. The city of Reinbek, together with the Reinbeker Gewerbebund e.V. and local businesses, transforms Bahnhofstraße – the city's central shopping street – into a car-free festival mile once a year. Over 30 exhibitors enlivened the street in 2025, and for 2026, 35 exhibitors had already registered during the application phase.
Reinbek, with its approximately 27,000 inhabitants, is located directly on the eastern border of Hamburg. It is easily accessible via the S-Bahn (line S21) in just 25 minutes from Hamburg Central Station and belongs to the economically strong district of Stormarn. The city combines a high quality of residential living with its proximity to the Sachsenwald forest and is making a name for itself as a cultural centre of the region between Hamburg and Lübeck with events like the Sommersalon.
The concept is clearly focused on the city centre: Bahnhofstraße is closed to traffic, the shops and cafés on the street open their doors, and the local business community presents itself. Street food stalls, fashion shows, live bands on one or more stages, family activities, craft workshops, and a glass of wine or a cold drink in the sun – these are the typical ingredients. The atmosphere is that of a small-town summer vernissage, where citizens, retailers, and visitors celebrate their city together.
The Sommersalon is explicitly a joint project: the city of Reinbek takes on the main organizational responsibility, the Reinbeker Gewerbebund e.V. bundles the economic aspects, and the owners of Bahnhofstraße actively support the festival. This mix gives the event its specific character – not a mass event, but a curated city festival with local identity.
The city of Reinbek has scheduled the Sommersalon 2026 for Saturday, June 20, 2026. The Bahnhofstraße in the city centre will be closed to traffic and transformed into a colourful festival mile – the official event window runs from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM.
Over 35 exhibitors had already registered by the application phase – a significant increase compared to 2025 (30 exhibitors). The detailed programme – stage acts, fashion presentations, family activities – will be published in the weeks leading up to the event on reinbek.de and gewerbebund-reinbek.de.
Event window: 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM on Bahnhofstraße Reinbek (car-free).
