Ten days of music, art, literature, and theatre at various venues
For almost two decades, the Wentorf Culture Week has been the defining cultural event of the municipality of Wentorf near Hamburg. What began as a manageable concept by a supporting association has blossomed into a ten-day cultural showcase, bundling a remarkably broad programme at various venues in the town. In its 19th edition in 2026, the Culture Week runs from May 29 to June 7. Over 80 individual events are spread across ten days, with a focus on music (around 36 events), art (17), literature and storytelling (7), theatre (4), workshops (9), and children's/youth programmes (11).
Characteristic of the Wentorf Culture Week is the diversity of spaces: instead of a central festival site, the festival uses the cultural locations of the municipality. The Martin-Luther-Kirche (Reinbeker Weg 27) hosts the opening and closing concerts. Readings, lectures, and theatre performances take place at the Gemeinschaftsschule (Achtern Höben 3). The Alte Schule (Teichstr. 1) houses smaller lecture formats and exhibitions. In addition, there is the village square (Dorfplatz), the community centre (Bürgerhaus), and other rooms — each venue with its own character.
The Culture Week's programme is classically broad and appeals to all age groups. The main focuses are:
Most events are free of charge, donations are welcome. Some special formats (theatre, certain concerts) may charge a nominal fee. The organiser is the Förderkreis Wentorfer Kulturwoche e. V. with the support of the municipality of Wentorf near Hamburg, local sponsors, and the voluntary work of numerous helpers.
Wentorf near Hamburg is a municipality with around 12,000 inhabitants in the Herzogtum Lauenburg district, located southeast of Hamburg. Its location on the Sachsenwald forest and its accessibility by train and bus from Hamburg-Bergedorf also make the Culture Week interesting for audiences from the Hamburg metropolitan area. The Culture Week's aim: to bring culture to the village — without feeling tied to Hamburg, but open to guests from outside.
The 19th edition confirms the proven format: a dense programme of over 80 individual events over ten days, spread across various venues in the town. Music, art, literature, theatre, and children's programmes form the main focuses — supplemented by lectures, workshops, and culinary formats.
The Culture Week traditionally opens with a concert in the Martin-Luther-Kirche and closes with festive organ music. The concepts are aimed equally at locals and visitors from the surrounding Hamburg area, which is reachable within half an hour by public transport. The voluntary commitment of the Förderkreis Wentorfer Kulturwoche e. V. and the municipality of Wentorf near Hamburg supports the festival.
