Grand Festival Weekend for the 800th City Anniversary
Langenburg, situated above the Jagst valley in Hohenlohe, is celebrating its 800th city anniversary in 2026. The town — today with just under 1,800 inhabitants, one of the smallest towns in Baden-Württemberg — looks back on a history that spans the Middle Ages and the Renaissance to the present day. The landmark is Langenburg Castle, the ancestral seat of the Princely House of Hohenlohe-Langenburg for centuries.
The highlight of the anniversary year is the festival weekend on June 6 and 7, 2026, in the city center. The historic old town, the church square, and the town church form the backdrop for a diverse program of music, culture, and tradition.
The program starts at 3:30 PM (admission €2 from 16 years). From 4:30 PM, Moving Souls will play timeless classics and current hits. From 8:00 PM, the party band Pn8 takes the stage. At 9:00 PM, the Church Illumination begins — the town church is bathed in colorful light, a highlight of summer evenings with a long tradition in the region.
Sunday is the traditional festival day with free admission. At 10:00 AM, the Celebratory Service begins in the town church with Regional Bishop Ernst-Wilhelm Gohl. From 12:00 PM, the town invites you to the traditional Weißwurst breakfast with brass music by the *Scheiremussich* — a Swabian-Bavarian fusion of morning pint music and brass band. Throughout the afternoon, blacksmith demonstrations, art exhibitions, and catering by local clubs will shape the town streets, courtyards, and gardens. Homeowners open their doors, workshops, and cafés for visits.
Beyond the festival weekend, the anniversary year 2026 features other events: on June 18, a discussion between former politicians Rezzo Schlauch and Joschka Fischer; the historical weekend on June 20–21 with reenactment groups; the children's festival on July 4; and a festival concert in the autumn. The organizers are the City of Langenburg, local clubs, as well as Langenburg Castle and the Princely House of Hohenlohe-Langenburg.
