About Landfestival

For three days, lectures, workshops, hikes, a creative market, a nature experience day, and a light night at the Hammerteich pond will transform the Thuringian rural village of Georgenthal into a venue for nature and culture. The 2nd edition of the Landfestival (September 18–20, 2026) will, for the first time, integrate the Dinosaur Festival as a permanent component and appoint Resident Artists who will create land art installations. The festival is free of charge.

Land Art and Nature Culture

The Landfestival Georgenthal is a new Thuringian festival that took place for the first time in 2025 and immediately attracted around 7,000 visitors to the rural village on the edge of the Thuringian Forest. It positions itself at the intersection of nature, art, and rural life – a format that understands the landscape as a stage and brings together city guests and villagers.

The Program Concept

The mix of lectures, workshops, hikes, and activity offerings, complemented by a creative market, a nature experience day, and a light night at the Hammerteich pond, shapes the concept. Resident Artists create land art installations that transform the festival grounds into a walkable gallery. In 2026, the Dinosaur Festival will be integrated as a permanent component – a format that makes the scientific heritage of the region (Bromacker fossil site with dinosaurs) tangible.

Georgenthal – Municipality in the Gotha District

Georgenthal is located on the northern edge of the Thuringian Forest in the Gotha district. In addition to Georgenthal itself, the municipality comprises several small districts and is primarily known for the Georgenthal Abbey ruins (Cistercian monastery, founded in 1143), the spa park, and its natural setting. The Landfestival uses this backdrop for its program.

Landfestival — edition 2026

The 2nd edition of the Landfestival Georgenthal takes place from September 18 to 20, 2026. Lectures, workshops, hikes, a creative market, a nature experience day, and a light night at the Hammerteich pond shape the three festival days. New in 2026: the Dinosaur Festival as an integrated component. Resident Artists create land art installations on site.

After the successful launch in 2025 (around 50 individual events, 7,000 visitors), the second edition further expands the program. The rural character is maintained – the festival consciously positions itself as an alternative to large urban formats.
