Railway Action Weekend at the Franconian Open-Air Museum Fladungen
The Rhön-Zügle is a special feature of the German museum landscape: The Franconian Open-Air Museum Fladungen in the Rhön-Grabfeld district is the only open-air museum in Germany with its own standard-gauge museum railway. On September 15, 1996, the section Ostheim vor der Rhön–Fladungen of the former Streutalbahn was reopened as a museum railway line. In 2026, this event will mark its 30th anniversary.
To celebrate its 30th anniversary, the museum invites you to a major action weekend on September 19 and 20 at Fladungen station and on the museum grounds. A diverse program awaits railway fans of all generations, covering the historical and modern world of trains – including a Lego train where children can control electric trains themselves.
The weekend is part of the nationwide "Tag der Schiene", an initiative that provides a broad audience with insights into the world of railways. Thus, the anniversary combines local railway history with a nationwide initiative and underscores the importance of the railway for mobility and tourism in the Rhön region.
The open-air museum documents rural life and crafts of the Rhön region. In combination with the Rhön-Zügle, which steams through the Streutal valley on selected operating days, it creates a unique excursion destination that makes history tangible and appeals equally to families and technology enthusiasts.
