A Market for the Whole Family

The Großes Marktfest Fladungen is a classic market festival, still alive in the Rhön: on the third Sunday in September, Bavaria's northernmost town opens its old town for a large open market day. Stalls in the market square and adjacent alleys, a professional flea market near Dr.-Höffling-Straße, a play street for children, and a flea market by the Fladungen youth characterize the scene. The stalls open from 11 a.m.

Rhön Specialties and Arts and Crafts

The market offers range from regional products (cheese, sausage, bread, honey) to clothing, household goods, flowers and plants, as well as arts and crafts and collectibles at the flea market. Hearty classics from the Rhön cuisine, such as Zwiebelplootz, bratwurst, and regional bread, are available, along with coffee and cake in the surrounding cafés and at the market itself.

Fladungen – Gateway to the Bavarian Rhön

Fladungen is located in the Rhön-Grabfeld district in Lower Franconia and is considered the northernmost town in Bavaria. The medieval old town with its town wall, gates, and half-timbered houses provides a special backdrop for the market festival, which traditionally attracts many visitors from the border areas of Hesse and Thuringia. Those who wish to extend their stay can combine the market with a visit to the Fränkisches Freilandmuseum Fladungen or a hike in the Rhön Biosphere Reserve.
