Family music day with Pinocchio treasure hunt, chamber music in the wheat barn, and salon music in the manor house
Gut Wahlstorf is located in the municipality of Wahlstorf in the Plön district (Schleswig-Holstein), between the towns of Plön and Preetz. The historic estate ensemble — consisting of the manor house, outbuildings, park, and the famous wheat barn — is one of the oldest preserved estates in Schleswig-Holstein. The wheat barn, built in 1584, is considered the oldest thatched half-timbered building in the entire state — a monument of statewide importance. The estate is picturesquely situated on the west bank of Lankersee lake, surrounded by the Schwentine river and canals.
The Benefit Music Day is more than a normal summer concert — it is a format that combines classical music with family programming, historic architecture, and the spirit of benefit. Various concerts are offered simultaneously and successively on the estate: The family concert "Pinocchio" for children (musical treasure hunt through the estate grounds, approx. 60 min., music by Ákos Hoffmann and Christian Ruvolo), chamber music in the historic wheat barn with its unique acoustics, and salon music in the manor house. Visitors can picnic on the estate meadow, enjoy coffee and cake, and make use of food stands.
All proceeds and donations from the music day go towards the preservation of the listed buildings. In particular, the wheat barn (1584) requires regular restoration work — the thatched roof, the half-timbered structure, the interior fittings. With the Benefit Music Day, Gut Wahlstorf combines cultural enjoyment with a concrete contribution to the preservation of a nationally unique architectural monument. An event that shows how culture, history, and commitment can come together — embedded in the unique landscape of Holstein Switzerland with its hills and lakes.
The Benefit Music Day 2026 at Gut Wahlstorf takes place on June 21, 2026 — the longest day of the year, the summer solstice. The program is spread across the estate grounds on Lankersee lake: the family concert "Pinocchio" as a musical treasure hunt for children (music by Ákos Hoffmann and Christian Ruvolo, approx. 60 min.), classical chamber music concerts in the historic wheat barn (built in 1584, Schleswig-Holstein's oldest thatched half-timbered building), and salon music in the manor house.
