Six days of Kerwa in the Bamberg hill region
The Kirchweih Lisberg is the most important annual festival of the Upper Franconian municipality in Bamberg County. At six days, it lasts unusually long – an indication of the importance the Kerwa has in the village's self-image. The entire village is out and about during this time.
The program follows the typical Upper Franconian Kirchweih dramaturgy: opening of the festival tent, performances by regional brass bands and dance bands, festive service, festival parade, Frühschoppen, family afternoon, and a celebratory conclusion with the auction of the Kirwabaum (Kirchweih tree). Bratwurst, Schäuferla (pork shoulder roast), and Franconian beer are the culinary mainstays.
Lisberg Castle sits enthroned on a mountain spur above the village and has been documented since the 12th century. It belongs to the von Rotenhan family and is not publicly accessible, but it shapes the village's appearance and gives the Kirchweih a special historical background.
The municipality of Lisberg actually celebrates two Kirchweihen per year: the big main Kirchweih in September in the main town and the Trabelsdorf Kirchweih at the beginning of October in the district of Trabelsdorf. Both events are listed in the official Kirchweih calendar for the city and county of Bamberg.
Lisberg is located in the western part of Bamberg County, which in turn belongs to the Upper Franconian administrative region. The region is characterized by hills, vineyards in the Aischgrund area, and a dense Kirchweih culture – Lisberg is just one of countless Upper Franconian municipalities with its own Kerwa.
The 2026 edition follows the established six-day Kerwa program. The exact daily schedule with performances by dance bands, Frühschoppen, festive service, and the festival parade will be announced before the Kirchweih.
The municipality's second Kirchweih – the Trabelsdorf Kirchweih – follows from October 3 to 5, 2026, in the district of the same name.
Program changes and exact timetables will be published on the Bamberg Kirchweih Calendar and on the municipal website.
