Gaggenau Christmas Market — eight days of Advent in the Murg Valley
The Gaggenau Christmas Market, with its eight market days, is one of the most visited Christmas markets in the northern Black Forest — and above all, one of the few formats that runs over two full weekends. In 2026, the market is scheduled for the following dates:
- 1st Weekend: November 26–29, 2026
- 2nd Weekend: December 3–6, 2026
- Additional Market: December 10–13, 2026 (smaller market)
Opening hours are Thursday to Sunday, 12 PM to 8 PM. The venue is Gaggenau's city centre.
The Gaggenau Dwarves — daily at 5 PM
The well-known and popular special feature of the Gaggenau Christmas Market is the 'Gaggenau Dwarves', who appear every market day at 5 PM — a local character with whom the city has shaped the Advent season for years. For children, there is a photo spot with the dwarves, and on St. Nicholas' Day (Sunday, December 6th), St. Nicholas himself will appear at 2 PM.
Arts and Crafts, Mulled Wine, and Small Animals
The market's range covers the classic Christmas market spectrum: mulled wine in various varieties (red, white, non-alcoholic for children), punch, bratwurst, tarte flambée, roasted almonds, gingerbread, winter dishes made from regional ingredients. Alongside stalls with arts and crafts: jewellery, woodwork, ceramics, textiles, candles, small carpentry items. Especially popular with children: the alpacas, which come to the market as a permanent attraction for petting and observing.
Children's Workshop in the Town Hall
A special format of the Gaggenau market is the children's workshop in the town hall. While parents enjoy a mulled wine at the market, children craft Advent wreaths, stars, and small gifts. The workshop is free and runs on several days.
Gaggenau — the southern suburb of Rastatt
Gaggenau in the Rastatt district is the southern neighbour of Rastatt in the Murg Valley. With around 30,000 inhabitants, it is one of the larger industrial cities in the northern Black Forest (the Mercedes-Benz plant Gaggenau has been located here for over 100 years). The city centre is manageable and pleasantly accessible, especially in the Advent season — those looking for a quieter, yet still vibrant, Christmas market will find a lovely alternative to the overcrowded markets in Karlsruhe or Baden-Baden.
