Ten days of open-air culture in Oldenburg city centre with the motto “Culture for All„
Kultursommer Oldenburg has been a firm fixture in the event calendar of the Lower Saxony university city for many years. For over ten days, the central squares are transformed into open cultural spaces, hosting concerts, open-air cinema, theatre, and an extensive children's programme.
The guiding principle of Kultursommer 2026 underscores the festival's accessible approach. Many concerts and events are free to attend, while other programme items are offered at a moderate admission price. The aim is to reach the widest possible segments of the population and to make public space visible as a shared cultural venue.
Schlossplatz is the festival's central stage and hosts the major evening concerts. Schlossinnenhof becomes an open-air cinema with a screen, showing current and classic films under the open sky. Cäcilienplatz is where the family and children's programme gathers, while Herbertplatz features additional concerts and performances.
The musical programme ranges from pop and indie to singer-songwriters, world music, jazz, and classical. Local bands and ensembles from Oldenburg perform alongside regional acts, reflecting the full spectrum of the Northwest.
The open-air cinema in Schlossinnenhof is one of the festival's mainstays. International films, classics, and premieres are shown against the impressive backdrop of the palace. The intimate atmosphere of the inner courtyard lends the screenings a special character.
Cäcilienplatz becomes a playground for families. Interactive activities, short plays, concerts for young audiences, and creative workshops make Kultursommer an experience for the youngest visitors too.
The organiser is Kulturetage gGmbH, a non-profit cultural institution in Oldenburg that organises concerts, theatre, cabaret, and festivals throughout the year. With Kultursommer, it creates a distinct summer highlight.
With the motto “Culture for All„, Kultursommer 2026 focuses on the accessibility of cultural offerings. The programme structure combines major free open-air evenings on Schlossplatz with curated film nights in the inner courtyard and an extensive children's and family programme on Cäcilienplatz.
The complete 2026 programme will be published by the organiser in spring and summer. The structure follows the established cornerstones of previous years:
Schlossplatz, Schlossinnenhof, Cäcilienplatz and Herbertplatz in Oldenburg city centre.
Friday, July 10th to Sunday, July 19th, 2026.
A large portion of the events are free. Some programme items require tickets; available via Reservix.
