Black Forest Town Festival in the Heart of the Renchtal

For almost four decades, the Oppenauer Stadtfest has been one of the most traditional summer festivals in the Black Forest-Renchtal region. Organized by the town of Oppenau in cooperation with the Oppenau business association and local clubs, the festival spreads throughout the entire town center — from Allmendplatz with the main stage to Rathausplatz with the side stage and Kirchplatz with family activities.

Program Kicks Off on Saturday with Beer Tapping

The 2026 Stadtfest begins on Saturday, August 29th at 6 p.m. with the traditional beer tapping by the mayor, accompanied by the Oppenau fanfare band. Afterwards, cover bands will take over the main stage — genres will range from rock, pop, and Schlager. Regional bands and acoustic artists will perform on the side stage. In parallel, the flea market along Straßburger Straße will be filled with treasures in the morning and afternoon.

Schwarzkrut, Striebli, and Regional Cuisine

Regional specialties dominate the culinary offerings: Schwarzwälder Schwarzkrut (cured pork with sauerkraut), Striebli (fried pastry), Vesperteller with farmer's ham and bacon, Bratwurst, fries, and international food stalls from clubs (pizza, crêpes, Asian). In the beer tent, Schwarzwald beer from the Ketterer brewery will flow, along with local wines from Affental and Riesling from the Renchtal winery.

Sunday: Family Day and Sunday Shopping

Sunday, August 30th begins at 10 a.m. and is especially geared towards families: children's flea market on Kirchplatz, carousel, pony rides, boat trips on the Rench river, face painting, bouncy castle, and a special stage program by Oppenau schools and kindergartens. The Sunday shopping event opens Oppenau's shops (1 p.m.–6 p.m.) for browsing. In the afternoon, the business association will hold its raffle — grand prizes include an e-scooter, several travel vouchers, and shopping vouchers for Oppenau businesses in 2026.

Monday — Festival Wind-Down with Frühschoppen

On Monday, August 31st, the festival winds down from 12 p.m. onwards. A traditional Frühschoppen (morning pint) with the music club, lunch, afternoon concerts, and the festival concludes around 2 a.m. Monday is a school day, so the festival atmosphere is more relaxed — many regulars traditionally use Monday for a quiet end with beer and Swabian stories.

Oppenau — Black Forest Community on Streams and Hiking Trails

Oppenau (approx. 4,500 inhabitants) is located in the Renchtal valley between Oberkirch and the Schwarzwaldhochstraße — nestled in dense fir forests, crisscrossed by the Rench river and its tributaries. The town is a stopover on the Schwarzwaldhochstraße (B 500) and a hiking landmark on the Westweg trail of the Schwarzwaldverein. The Stadtfest is considered an annual meeting point for Oppenau's citizens, summer guests from Renchtal guesthouses, and hikers on the Schwarzwaldhochstraße.
