One of East Frisia's most traditional Pentecost folk festivals in the heart of Rheiderland
The 252nd edition of the Bunder Pentecost Market continues a tradition founded in the late 18th century, firmly establishing the municipality of Bunde in the East Frisian market landscape. Bunde is located directly on the Dutch border and has always been a trading post where German and Dutch markets, languages, and customs met. The Pentecost Market reflects this cross-border history.
The central festival grounds feature around forty stalls and six amusement rides. The kickoff on Saturday morning is the widely known family flea market on Kellingwolder Straße, which attracts buyers and sellers from all over Rheiderland and neighboring Dutch municipalities from seven o'clock onwards. The stage program, opening ceremony, music, and fireworks display make the Pentecost Market a multi-day folk festival with a distinctly family-friendly atmosphere.
The official opening is traditionally performed by the mayor. For the 252nd edition, Mayor Uwe Sap will perform this act on Saturday afternoon. The opening will be accompanied by music from the Mill Rose Jazzband from Winschoten, underscoring the event's German-Dutch profile. The highlight of Saturday evening is the fireworks display over the market square.
As early as the Friday evening before the market, a fire brigade competition on the festival grounds attracts an initial audience and actively involves the community's clubs. Bunde and its villages use the Pentecost Market to celebrate their own identity as a Rheiderland municipality with Dutch connections.
As early as Friday evening, May 22, 2026, at 7:00 PM, a fire brigade competition kicks off the Pentecost Market weekend. On Saturday morning, starting at 7:00 AM, the traditional family flea market takes place on Kellingwolder Straße – a popular event for collectors and bargain hunters throughout the region. At 3:00 PM, Mayor Uwe Sap officially opens the Pentecost Market; he is joined by the Mill Rose Jazzband and representatives of the municipality and its clubs.
On the following days, market operations continue uninterrupted. Six amusement rides, around 40 stalls, and a diverse stage and catering program characterize the event. The highlight of Saturday evening is the fireworks display over the market square around 10:45 PM.
