About Heimatsommer
Heimatsommer — edition 2026
Program 2026 — Four Summer Wednesdays
This year's edition spreads the Heimatsommer concept over four Wednesday evenings in high and late summer 2026. Each evening follows the same structure — food and drinks from 6:30 PM, stage program from 7:30 PM — but features different musical performers, creating a small summer series.
On stage, traditional folk dances by the Trachtengruppe Oberharmersbach alternate with musical acts such as VaterSohn, Steffi & Felix, Helga & Sascha, and Auf gut badisch. The final evening on August 12th traditionally features the program "Auf gut badisch" with Baden songs and anecdotes — and includes a crêpe stand as a special culinary offering.

Come hungry — the Vesper specialties from the local clubs are the culinary highlights of the evening: Black Forest sausage, cheese, fresh farm bread, elderflower cordial. If you're not familiar with folk music: the performances by the traditional costume groups are often the most emotionally resonant moments. It's worth visiting the Alte Mühle before the concert begins. Check the weather — the Heimatsommer evenings take place only in good weather; weather updates via the Oberharmersbach Tourist Information (07837 277).
Accommodation
Hotels, guesthouses, and holiday apartments in Oberharmersbach and Zell am Harmersbach. For those wanting to experience the Black Forest: staying in the valley is a relaxed choice, with hiking opportunities the next day (Hansjakobpfad, Hochmoor Glaswald).
Oberharmersbach — Valley idyll in the Middle Black Forest
Oberharmersbach is located in the Harmersbachtal, a side valley of the Black Forest in the Ortenau district, nestled between the Schwarzwaldhochstrasse and Kinzigtal. The municipality with around 2,500 inhabitants thrives on tourism, forestry, agriculture, and a closely knit community of clubs and traditional groups. The Heimatsommer makes this identity publicly experienceable over four summer evenings — on the Rathausplatz, under the open sky, with the typical Black Forest mix of folk music, traditional costumes, Vesper, and conviviality.
Program 2026 — Four Wednesday Evenings
The 2026 edition runs on four Wednesday evenings:
- Wednesday, July 1, 2026
- Wednesday, July 15, 2026
- Wednesday, July 29, 2026
- Wednesday, August 12, 2026
Each evening follows the same schedule:
- From 6:30 PM — Food and drinks with regional Vesper specialties (sausage and cheese platters, Brotzeit, elderflower cordial) and cold beverages (Baden beer, cider, wines, non-alcoholic)
- From 7:30 PM — Stage program on the Rathausplatz
- Alte Mühle open — with demonstrations of traditional grain milling techniques
The Artists 2026 (based on club planning)
The Trachtengruppe Oberharmersbach (traditional costume group) presents traditional Black Forest folk dances in their characteristic attire on several evenings (red Bollenhüte and black dresses for unmarried women — a costume style instantly recognizable in the Black Forest). In addition, music bands and folk music acts perform:
- VaterSohn — intergenerational folk music duo
- Steffi & Felix — modern Black Forest folk music
- Helga & Sascha — cozy home music
- Auf gut badisch — program with Baden songs and anecdotes (often on the final evening, August 12th)
The last evening (August 12th) typically also features a crêpe stand as a special culinary offering.
"Heimatsommer" as a Concept
The term Heimatsommer is an established brand in the South German event calendar for summer events that consciously focus on regional folk culture — traditional costumes, folk music, local Vesper, customs — without being kitschy or overly touristy. Oberharmersbach has cultivated this concept with great care for years: no overly staged tourist presentation, but authentic club culture that is actually lived in the community and made public on four evenings.
The Alte Mühle as Accompanying Program
While the main stage on the Rathausplatz is active, the Alte Mühle (Old Mill) in Oberharmersbach is open, offering insights into the traditional Black Forest milling heritage. Demonstrations of milling techniques, historical equipment, and explanations of water mill technology make the mill an authentic cultural destination — and a great addition to the Heimatsommer evening.
