Distillery Mile, State Exhibition, SWR Stage — Oberkirch hosts the State's Heimattage in 2026
The Heimattage Baden-Württemberg is an annual award given by the state since 1978: A city is allowed to present its customs, history, and identity under the Heimattage logo within a calendar year. In 2026, this honor falls to Oberkirch — the Renchtal town of 21,000 inhabitants in the Ortenau district, located at the transition from the Upper Rhine Plain to the northern Black Forest.
The highlight of the Heimattage year is the central Baden-Württemberg Day on the weekend of May 16-17, 2026. A State Exhibition will be set up on and around Oberkirch's historic market square: 55 exhibitors from all over Baden-Württemberg will present their regions, crafts, and products. The spectrum ranges from Lake Constance tourism to the Swabian Jura and Hohenlohe-Franconia to the Palatinate — the entire state in one city.
Oberkirch is Germany's "Capital of Distilleries": The town has more premium distillery businesses than any other municipality in Europe. Williams pear, rowan berry, apple, quince, and damson plum — the Renchtal premium spirits are known worldwide. During the Baden-Württemberg Day, a distillery mile will be set up where local distilleries will serve their specialties, complemented by cocktails, liqueurs, and regional delicacies. A small educational exhibition will explain the traditional and modern distilling craft.
Embedded within the 2026 Heimattage year are the "Oberkirch Days" on May 14 and 15, 2026. The opening concert with the Baden Symphony Orchestra and the State Police Orchestra, local events, city tours, and a historical market on the history of the Renchtal valley are the core elements. From Thursday evening, May 14, a festive atmosphere will prevail in Oberkirch's old town, continuing unbroken until Sunday evening, May 17.
The Heimattage Baden-Württemberg 2026 will take place from May 14 to 17 in Oberkirch. The event is organized by the city of Oberkirch in cooperation with the state of Baden-Württemberg and SWR. Admission is free.
The main program days are the weekend of May 16-17 (Baden-Württemberg Day), when the market square and city center will become a stage for the state from 11 AM to 6 PM daily. 55 exhibitors from all over Baden-Württemberg will showcase their regions. On Saturday evening (8 PM), SWR1 Pop & Poesie will perform on the market square stage. The Distillery Mile featuring Oberkirch's premium spirits, a farmers' market on Saturday morning, a Nature Park Market Black Forest Mitte/Nord on Sunday, and a craft market will complement the program.
The Oberkirch Days on May 14-15 will precede the main event, featuring the opening concert by the Baden Symphony Orchestra and the State Police Orchestra, as well as city tours and a historical market on the history of the Renchtal valley.
