The state's major harvest festival — hosted by Grabow in 2026
The Landeserntedankfest Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is the most important agricultural festival in the state. Every year in early October, it moves through a different host town, celebrating the connection between city and country, farms and consumers, tradition and modern agriculture. The patron is traditionally the Minister-President of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, accompanied locally by the Minister of Agriculture, who symbolically hands over the baton to the new host town year after year.
The centerpiece is the grand parade on Sunday, featuring historical and modern agricultural machinery, tractors, floats, marching bands, and traditional costume groups. It also includes a central harvest crown, a harvest thanksgiving service, a farmers' Olympics, animal shows, regional products, arts and crafts, a kids' mile, and several stages with live music. The host town completely transforms into a festival mile for a weekend.
Mayor Kathleen Bartels received the baton at the 2025 Landeserntedankfest in Wismar. Grabow is hosting the festival for the second time, thirty years after 1996. The small town on the Elde river in the Ludwigslust-Parchim district, known for its perfectly preserved half-timbered old town with over 160 historic houses, offers the ideal setting. The motto for 2026 is »Tüffeln, Trecker un Tohus« — in Low German, a commitment to potatoes, tractors, and home.
Mecklenburg-Vorpommern is one of Germany's most agriculturally significant federal states. The Landeserntedankfest honors this economic strength and makes it tangible for a broad audience — from plowing demonstrations at the farmers' Olympics to direct sales from the farm.
With the baton in hand, Grabow is preparing for the central state festival of agriculture. The small town with its perfectly preserved half-timbered old town will transform into a two-day festival mile on October 3rd and 4th, 2026.
The highlight will be the grand parade on Sunday, featuring historical and modern agricultural machinery, traditional costume groups, marching bands, and floats from across the region. The harvest crown will be woven by hand over hundreds of hours and carried through the town in a solemn procession on Sunday.
Mayor Kathleen Bartels calls hosting the festival "a great honor for our town." The organizing committee, comprising the town, the Amt Grabow, local associations, and the Ludwigslust-Parchim district, will present the detailed program starting in spring 2026.
