Five handmade open-air concerts in the Lighthouse Keeper's Garden
Kultursommer Kap Arkona is a curated open-air concert series held every year in midsummer in the Leuchtturmwärtergarten (Lighthouse Keeper's Garden) — a sheltered small garden between the Schinkel Tower of 1827 and the new lighthouse of 1902 at Kap Arkona. The location alone is extraordinary: steep coast, open Baltic Sea, the Slavic rampart of Jaromarsburg, and the towers at your back form a natural backdrop that no other concert venue in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern offers.
The program focuses on handmade music with substance: singer-songwriters and band projects from East Germany, chanson evenings, folk formations, occasionally reggae or world music. Well-known names like IC Falkenberg (former frontman of Stern Meißen) or Die Zöllner from the Pankow scene are featured, as well as smaller, regional projects. There are five concerts per season, held on Saturdays between mid-July and the end of August.
The organizers — Tourismus GmbH Kap Arkona — consciously focus on a small audience and an intimate atmosphere. The concerts start in the early evening (6 or 7 PM), usually end around 10 PM, and take place outdoors. In case of bad weather, they are moved to the nearby restaurant at the Cape or an indoor location. The Großparkplatz Putgarten (large car park) is free of charge for concertgoers from 7 PM onwards; shuttle trains or a short walk lead to the Cape.
Putgarten belongs to the municipality at Kap Arkona in the Vorpommern-Rügen district. The concert series complements the region's tourist offerings and is often combined with a day trip: a morning walk along the steep coast or a visit to the naval command bunker, followed by a concert in the Lighthouse Keeper's Garden in the evening. A recommendation for music lovers who want to combine concert enjoyment with a nature experience.
Five concert evenings, five styles — the 2026 season continues the proven mix of singer-songwriter, chanson, folk-rock, and reggae. The concerts take place in the Lighthouse Keeper's Garden directly at Kap Arkona; in case of bad weather, they will be moved to the restaurant at the Cape.
The 2026 program mixes established East German artists like IC Falkenberg (solo career after Stern Meißen) and Die Zöllner with crossover projects like the German-British duo Manuel Schmid & Maike Virk, as well as the chanson program PIAF ESQUE. The season concludes with reggae and ska by Small Town Artists.
