Four-week cultural festival in the Lower Bavarian spa town
Bad Füssing in the Lower Bavarian district of Passau is known as Europe's most visited spa town — its thermal baths attract over a million overnight guests annually. What surprises many visitors: The town is also a top-class cultural center. The Bad Füssing Cultural Festival celebrates its 27th edition in 2026 and is among the most ambitious municipal cultural events in Lower Bavaria.
The festival runs from September 11 to October 11, 2026 — almost a full month. Over 30 days, musical theatre, classical music, cabaret, brass crossover, jazz, world music, and film screenings alternate. The stages are spread across the Adalbert-Stifter-Saal (main stage), the Heilig-Geist-Kirche (sacred space for classical music), and the Kurgärtnerei (more intimate venue), as well as other locations in the spa gardens.
The 2026 musical theatre program kicks off with Breakin' Mozart (Berlin conductor Christoph Hagel with Bavarian breakdancers), followed by TITANIC — Das Musical, a gripping musical narrative of the fates on board. With Hamlet — Das Rockmusical, the festival presents a modern adaptation of Shakespeare's drama blending punk and pop. For families, the musical Pinocchio (ages 4+) on October 9 offers a child-friendly stage adaptation.
Musically, the 2026 festival showcases a wide spectrum: Holger Mück and his Egerländer Blasmusik (Sept 12) open with traditional Bohemian-Moravian brass band music, the Desperate Brasswives (Sept 13) bring feminist-fresh brass crossover, and voXXclub with Hannah Hofer (Oct 1) create an open-air experience in the Kurgärtnerei with their folk-pop mix. Jazz performances and classical ensembles also accompany the program throughout the festival.
A highlight of the classical series is the concert with REKKENZE BRASS on September 21 in the Heilig-Geist-Kirche. The acoustics of the sacred space particularly suit the virtuosic brass ensemble.
On the cabaret scene, Bruno Jonas is one of the festival's stars — the Munich cabaret artist, known from Bavarian television (BR), is among the top tier of Bavarian cabaret. His performance in the Adalbert-Stifter-Saal is regularly and quickly sold out.
Accompanying the festival, the Adalbert-Stifter-Saal foyer hosts the exhibition "Flowers" with accompanying art lectures, exploring the theme of flowers from various artistic perspectives. The exhibition is open throughout the entire festival period.
A film series featuring classics like "Moonstruck" and "The Witches of Eastwick" adds a cinematic dimension to the program. The closing concert "Journey Around the World" on October 10, featuring world music by the Kurkapelle, brings the festival to a musical close.
