Three Days of City Life in the Heart of Lower Bavaria

The Pocking Bürgerfest has been the highlight of the event calendar in the Lower Bavarian town of Pocking for over 20 years. Pocking is located in the district of Passau in the Passau region, nestled in the gentle hilly landscape between the Danube and Rottal-Inn. With around 16,000 inhabitants, Pocking is a manageable town – yet the Bürgerfest, held every July, attracts tens of thousands of visitors annually from all over Lower Bavaria and neighboring Upper Austria.

Four Stages, Hundreds of Participants

Four stages are spread across the city center, in the pedestrian zone, on the main square, in the Stadtpark, and in front of the town hall. The stages feature a rotation of regional bands (cover bands, folk music, brass, rock), street artists, dance groups, and solo artists. The musical spectrum ranges from traditional Lower Bavarian brass music and Bavarian singer-songwriters to pop, rock, and DJ sets, which also make the Bürgerfest a lively party night for the younger generation.

The heart of the festival is the Stadtpark: here, Lower Bavaria's largest beer garden is set up with over 10,000 seats. Thousands of long wooden benches under old chestnut trees, decorated with fairy lights and festive lighting, create an atmosphere that can hardly be compared to a classic city festival. Pocking innkeepers, clubs, private individuals, and Lower Bavarian breweries provide beer service and culinary diversity: hearty Lower Bavarian specialties (roast pork, Weißwurst, dumplings, coleslaw), but also international cuisine, pizza, fries, crêpes, grilled fish, and vegan options.

Clubs, Shops, and Civic Engagement

What makes the Pocking Bürgerfest special: The festival is not organized by a single festival operator, but is supported by the entire community. Clubs (shooting clubs, traditional costume associations, fire brigades, sports clubs, parishes), business people, and private individuals jointly organize the program, stalls, and catering. The result is a typically democratic festival – something between a Volksfest, a cultural event, and a civic initiative.

New Location in 2026 and Free Travel

In 2026, the Bürgerfest will move to a new, expanded location for the first time, offering more space for stages and catering stalls. Admission and parking are free – making the festival an accessible meeting place for Pocking families, young adults, and seniors. A tradition dictates that Sunday is dedicated to a holistic family afternoon, with a children's program and discounted offers at local shops.
