Ladelund: Village in the Far North
Ladelund is located in the Nordfriesland district in the state of Schleswig-Holstein, about 15 km northwest of Niebüll and directly on the German-Danish border. With around 1,100 inhabitants, Ladelund is a small but traditional community known for several active equestrian clubs: the Ringreiter- und Fahrverein (RRV) Ladelund und Umgebung e.V. and the Reit- und Fahrverein Wilhelminenhof Ladelund e.V..
Frisian Riding Tradition
Ring riding is a popular equestrian discipline that originated in the 19th century on the North Frisian Islands and the west coast. Riders gallop towards a loop (the ring) hung on a pole and try to pierce it with a lance. Dozens of such tournaments are held annually on Sylt, Föhr, Amrum, and the North Frisian mainland. Since 2021, ring riding has been part of the inventory of intangible cultural heritage of Schleswig-Holstein.
The Program in Ladelund
The RRV Ladelund opens its tournament on Friday evening with the bicycle ring riding — an open event where anyone interested can participate on a bicycle. On Saturday, the official competitions with horses follow. The event concludes with the summer festival with live music, dancing, and culinary offerings — a typical combination of sport and conviviality that shapes Frisian village life.
Ringreiten Ladelund — edition 2026
The RRV Ladelund ring riding tournament 2026 will once again open the Wilhelminenhof club grounds for a weekend of Frisian riding tradition. Setup begins on Thursday, June 25, 2026, from 6:30 PM (club members), and the official program starts on Friday evening.
The highlight for guests and visitors without prior horse experience is the bicycle ring riding on Friday evening — a humorous variation of classic ring riding, where participants aim for the ring with a bicycle instead of a horse. Everyone can participate, and laughter is guaranteed. On Saturday, the serious competition with horses follows, and in the evening, the summer festival with live music and dancing will be celebrated together.

Getting There
Ladelund is located in the far north of Schleswig-Holstein, approx. 15 km northwest of Niebüll. By car via the B5 (Niebüll-Süderlügum, Ladelund exit). By train to Niebüll and then by bus or taxi to Ladelund.
