A Kosher Festival in the Heart of Berlin
When the courtyard of the Neue Synagoge on Oranienburger Straße — the iconic, gold-domed landmark of Berlin's Jewish community in the Mitte district — is transformed into a market with over 35 food stalls once a year, it's one of Berlin's special festival dates. The Kosher Street Food Festival has been organized by the Jewish Community of Berlin since 2022, as part of the Jewish Cultural Days. 2026 marks the 5th edition — and makes Jewish culinary arts in their full spectrum accessible to a broad public audience.
What to Expect
- Over 35 Kosher Food Stalls: Israeli classics (Falafel, Shakshuka, Bourekas), fusion cuisine, creative reinterpretations of Schmoryn and Latkes
- Vegan Options: Kosher and vegan specialties have been part of the festival's DNA from the start
- Israeli Beers, Wines, and Lemonades: often with sommeliers on site
- Mediterranean Cuisine: Lebanese, Turkish, and North African Jewish traditions
- Live Program: Jazz band, comedy show, magic duo, calligraphy and caricature stands
- Children's Program: Puppet theater, mime, acrobatics, puppet show, animal-friendly petting zoo
- Special Attractions: Observation tower (Synagogue), Hertha BSC mascot, chess, book and souvenir stands
The Neue Synagoge — A Special Place
The Neue Synagoge on Oranienburger Straße was consecrated in 1866 and was considered one of the most important synagogue buildings in Europe at the time of its construction. Heavily damaged during the Kristallnacht pogrom in 1938 and largely destroyed in World War II, it was rebuilt starting in 1988 and today houses the Centrum Judaicum with exhibitions and event spaces. It is one of the most important symbols of Jewish life in Berlin — and thus the ideal festival location for an event celebrating Jewish culture through food.
Berlin as a Jewish City
Berlin today has the largest Jewish community in Germany, with around 10,000 registered members and a significantly larger Jewish urban population. The Kosher Street Food Festival is one of the few formats that visibly celebrates this community — accessible, free, and inviting to all Berliners.
