Ehrenfeld's most popular street festival — homemade goods, second-hand, and local shops
On Saturday, July 18, 2026, the Körnerstraße in Köln-Ehrenfeld will transform into a long festival setting. The annual Körnerstraßenfest is considered one of Cologne's most beautiful and personal street festivals — far from the mainstream folk festival concept, but full of neighborhood character, creativity, and local identity.
Unlike commercial street festivals, the Körnerstraßenfest is characterized by its neighborhood-focused concept:
The Körnerstraße is one of the most famous addresses in Ehrenfeld: a long shopping street with an eclectic mix of concept stores, cafés, vintage shops, antique stores, galleries, and bookstores. It symbolizes the transformation of Ehrenfeld from an industrial working-class district to a creative hotspot — cafés instead of workshops, concept stores instead of heavy metal.
The district of Köln-Ehrenfeld (around 105,000 inhabitants) is one of the liveliest and most creative districts in the cathedral city. Located between the Gürtel and the city center, it combines multiculturalism, students, artists, and long-established families. Well-known attractions: the Mevlana Mosque minaret, the Helios Works, Venloer Straße, Bumann & Sohn, the Brüsseler Platz, and of course, Körnerstraße. The Wall of the Ehrenfeld Edelweiß Pirates commemorates the anti-fascist resistance of young Ehrenfeld residents in the Third Reich.
The Körnerstraßenfest is one of Cologne's oldest and most popular district festivals. It originated from the commitment of the Körnerstraße IG (Interest Group), which aims to preserve the neighborhood in its diversity. The annual event is a must-attend not only for residents but also for Cologne lovers from all over the city.
A festive day full of Ehrenfeld's vibe: Residents sell homemade goods and second-hand items, local shops open with special activities, musicians perform on the street. Neighborhood focus instead of a mass event.
Free admission. Food and stalls at daily prices.
Subway station Körnerstraße (Line 13) or Venloer Str./Gürtel (Lines 3, 4). Bus 138 / 141. Train: Köln Hauptbahnhof, then Stadtbahn 3 / 4 / 5 to Ehrenfeld.
Free admission. Stalls and food at daily prices — mostly from residents, so moderate prices.
Arriving early from the morning is worthwhile — second-hand bargains sell out quickly. Local shops often open with special offers. If you want to experience live music, plan for the afternoon and evening.
