Neighbourly street festival in Köln-Ehrenfeld with market stalls, street food, and live music – proceeds for a good cause
The Rothehausstraßenfest is part of the vibrant Cologne tradition of "Veedelsfeste" – small, neighbour-organised street festivals that transform a complete street section into a mix of market, concert stage, and family picnic for one Sunday. Cologne hosts several dozen of these festivals per season; the Rothehausstraßenfest in Ehrenfeld is one of the most charming.
The 2026 edition will take place on Sunday, July 12, 2026, from 11:00 am to 6:00 pm. The venue is Rothehausstraße in Köln-Ehrenfeld, which will be completely closed off for the festival. Free admission.
The programme follows the typical format of a Veedelsfest:
A hallmark of the Rothehausstraßenfest: The proceeds are donated to a non-profit organisation. The organisers will announce which charity will be supported in 2026 before the festival. This tradition of solidarity is typical for Ehrenfeld – a district known for years for its social commitment, alternative scene, and mix of migrant communities and creative industries.
Ehrenfeld is located in the west of Cologne and is considered the creative heart of the city. Between the Helios site, Venloer Straße, and Ehrenfeld station live students, designers, musicians, families, and a strong Turkish-Arabic community. Cafés like Café Lyz, concert venues like the Underground, or theatres like the Kölner Schauspielhäuser (Halle Kalk) shape the cityscape. Street festivals like the Rothehausstraßenfest are the natural way this Veedel celebrates.
Cologne hosts over 20 major street festivals every year – from the Stoffstraßen-Fest (Belgian Quarter) to the Pfälzer Straßenfest (Lindenthal) and the Südstraße (Nippes). Mit Vergnügen Köln has included the Rothehausstraßenfest in its 2026 list of the 21 most important street festivals – an indication that it is among the most vibrant Veedelsfeste in the city.
The 2026 edition continues the vibrant tradition of Cologne's Veedelsfeste. Residents organise stalls with flea market finds, handmade goods, and vintage items; local caterers extend their terraces onto the street; a small stage provides live music. The charitable nature of the festival – donating the proceeds – makes it particularly appealing.
The specific beneficiary for 2026 will be announced before the festival.
