The Worms Tiergarten

The Tiergarten Worms is located in the Bürgerweide district at Hammelsdamm 101, embedded in a natural meadow and floodplain landscape on the edge of the Worms urban development. The focus of the institution is on native and old European domestic animal breeds, birds of prey, water fowl as well as small wildlife, combined with extensive educational offerings on nature, environment and animal husbandry. The Tiergarten is run on a non-profit basis and supported by an active circle of friends.

Program for children and families

The 2026 summer festival is clearly designed as a family festival. On the traffic training area, children playfully get to know traffic rules with pedal cars and bicycles. The milking cow — a life-size visual model with udder — clearly shows how milk production used to work and is a highlight for city children. On the barefoot trail, children can experience various surfaces such as gravel, bark mulch, sand, smooth stones and wooden beams with bare feet.

Bird nesting box workshop

A particularly sustainable format is the bird nesting box craft station. Under the guidance of Tiergarten staff and members of the circle of friends, children build their own nesting boxes with their parents, which they can take home and hang in their own garden or balcony. The wood material is provided by the Tiergarten; a small material fee covers the costs.

Catering and gastronomy

During the summer festival, the Tiergarten gastronomy and mobile catering stands are open. Cake buffet of the circle of friends, sausages from the grill, fries and drinks are offered at moderate prices.

Embedded in the Worms summer event season

The summer festival is part of a dense event summer at the Tiergarten Worms: on June 19th, 2026, the midsummer night (St. John's night) takes place as an evening format with music and campfire atmosphere; on September 3rd follows the Day of the Fire Salamander with a zoo-pedagogical focus. The summer festival itself is a classic day event from children for children.
