21 cultural institutions, around 150 program items – one night, one ticket, free public transport
Following the successful premiere in May 2024, the Long Night of CultureWorlds will be held for the second time on an early summer evening in Hildesheim in 2026. The format combines the strengths of the city's most important cultural institutions into a joint presentation, making the diversity of Hildesheim's cultural scene tangible in one evening.
Participants include the Roemer- and Pelizaeus-Museum with its world-renowned Egyptian and Peruvian collections, the City Museum, the Volkshochschule (Adult Education Center), the Theater für Niedersachsen, the Music School, the Mariendom Cathedral with its treasury, St. Michaelis Church, the City Library, the galleries and studios in the city center, as well as numerous independent cultural institutions and associations. In total, this creates a program with around 150 individual events, offering something for every taste.
The motto Explore. Experience. Expand. invites the public to discover new places and themes. Those who usually go to the theater might discover an unusual gallery; those who regularly visit museums might engage with a piano concert at the music school or a reading at a bookstore. The format deliberately encourages cross-pollination between disciplines and venues.
A central ticket provides visitors with access to all participating venues. Free public transport from 5:30 PM makes it easy to visit multiple locations in one night, from the museum complex and the city center to churches and venues in the wider vicinity of the center.
The Long Night has the character of a city festival: squares are lively, restaurants and cafés stay open longer, people interact while moving between venues, and small performances, walk acts, or light installations animate the public space. Despite high visitor numbers, the format maintains a relaxed atmosphere thanks to the wide distribution of venues.
Many program items are specifically aimed at families with children: hands-on workshops, storytelling events, child-friendly tours, and musical contributions ensure that younger guests can also enjoy the evening. The organizers strive for accessible entrances to the participating venues.
The 2026 edition builds on the success of the 2024 premiere. New venues have been added, the program portfolio has been expanded, and the route concept between venues has been optimized. For every visitor, the selection is large enough to create a highly individual evening.
Accompanying route suggestions by theme will be published (e.g., family route, classical culture, young scene, World Heritage route), facilitating an easy entry into the program offerings.
