Traditional village fair in the Bonn district of Lannesdorf-Bad Godesberg
In the southern Bonn borough of Bad Godesberg lies the district of Lannesdorf — a former village that became part of Bonn in 1969 during municipal restructuring and has retained its village character to this day. The Kirmes Lannesdorf is the annual proof of this: From June 12 to 15, 2026, the village square will transform into a festival ground for four days with carousels, a festival tent, a stage, and Sauerbraten lunch. The organizer is the Junggesellenverein Freundschaftsbund Lannesdorf 1894 e.V. — founded over 130 years ago, making it one of the oldest associations in southern Bonn.
The amusement rides open at 5 PM, and the festival tent program begins at 7 PM with the traditional JGV festival: DJ sets and live music — in previous years featuring artists like DJ Chris Mega, Asphalt Anton, and Kreisliga Legende. Admission to the JGV tent is typically €10.
Amusement rides operate from 2 PM on the village square, and from 6 PM onwards, a DJ party takes place in the festival tent. Saturday evening is the youngest and liveliest evening of the Kirmes.
Sunday traditionally begins with the High Mass at 9:30 AM in the Herz-Jesu-Kirche Lannesdorf — the Catholic parish plays a central role in the village. Afterwards, a Sauerbraten lunch is served in the festival tent starting at 12 PM — a Westphalian classic with red cabbage, potato dumplings, and gingerbread gravy, a highlight for any visitor. The afternoon offers a Volksfest atmosphere, followed by live music in the evening. On Sunday, a procession also takes place through the district.
The final day brings the emotional finale of the Kirmes. From 3 PM onwards, a coffee and cake buffet is available in the festival tent — cake donations are gladly accepted via [email protected]. In the evening, the burning of the Zacheies takes place: A straw effigy — symbolizing the passing festival and the sins of the year — is set ablaze on the village square. This custom is linked to old May/summer rituals of the Rhineland and gives the Lannesdorf Kirmes its unique character.
The JGV Lannesdorf has been the supporting pillar of village life since 1894. Young bachelors' associations in the Rhineland are an old tradition: originally, they were associations of young, unmarried men who organized customs, festivals, and mutual aid within the village. Today, the associations are gradually opening up — many JGVs are now mixed associations. The Lannesdorf JGV not only organizes the Kirmes but also Karneval (Carnival), Sankt-Martin-Feier (St. Martin's Day celebration), and other traditional events in the district.
The district of Lannesdorf is located in the southern borough of Bad Godesberg in the federal city of Bonn. It was an independent municipality until 1904, then belonged to the municipality of Mehlem, and in 1969, it became part of Bonn during the municipal restructuring. With nearly 6,000 inhabitants, it is characterized by the Herz-Jesu-Kirche, the village center around the village square, and the surrounding vineyards — as small vineyard plots are still cultivated here on the Rhine slope. Its proximity to the Rhine and the neighboring Mehlem with its ferry to Königswinter-Niederdollendorf makes Lannesdorf a quiet, atmospherically dense district of Bonn.
The Lannesdorf Kirmes 2026 follows the classic four-day format of the Rhenish village fair: Festival opening on Friday with JGV festival and DJ program, Saturday party with DJs, Sunday tradition with High Mass at 9:30 AM in the Herz-Jesu-Kirche, Sauerbraten lunch, procession, and afternoon/evening Volksfest atmosphere. Monday finale with a coffee and cake buffet from 3 PM and the evening burning of the Zacheies — a straw effigy symbolizing the passing festival.
Admission to the grounds is free. JGV festival tent Friday/Saturday typically €10 admission. Amusement rides priced individually by showmen. Sauerbraten lunch on Sunday based on consumption.
By public transport: Take Stadtbahn line 16 or 63 to Bad Godesberg, then bus 614 to Lannesdorf. Or take bus 614 directly from the city center. By car: Take the A562 or B9 towards Mehlem/Lannesdorf. Parking is available on surrounding streets — can be tight on weekends.
Admission to the Kirmes grounds is free. The JGV festival tent with DJ program on Friday and Saturday typically costs €10 per person. Amusement rides are priced individually by the showmen.
High Mass on Sunday at 9:30 AM in the Herz-Jesu-Kirche Lannesdorf. Sauerbraten lunch afterwards from approx. 12 PM in the festival tent — reservations through the JGV are recommended.
For an authentic Rhenish village experience, visit on Sunday: High Mass, Sauerbraten, procession — all within 4-5 hours. Return on Monday for the finale with the Zacheies burning on the village square — the most emotionally charged atmosphere of the entire Kirmes.
