Muffendorf is one of Bonn's most charming and oldest districts. First documented in 758, the former wine-growing village now belongs to the Bad Godesberg district in the south of Bonn. With its historic village center, half-timbered houses, and the baroque parish church of St. Martin, Muffendorf has retained a special charm — a village within the city, with its own history, its own identity, and its own viticulture until the 20th century. The Muffenale — the annual street festival — is the central staging of this village identity within the city of Bonn.

The Muffenale is a one-day festival — always on the first Sunday in September. In 2026, this falls on September 6. The format of a Sunday neighborhood festival suits Muffendorf's quiet, family-oriented character: not a mega-Volksfest, but a relaxed encounter between residents and guests on the central Muffendorfer Hauptstraße. Shops, clubs, artists, and private individuals open stalls, stages, and galleries.

The Muffenale program combines three components:

• Arts and Crafts: Stalls of local artisans with ceramics, jewelry, textiles, printmaking
• Culinary Delights: Stalls of local restaurants, farm sales from surrounding areas, snacks — from bratwurst to tarte flambée, from crêpes to farm cheese
• Culture: Live music on small stages, exhibitions in the district's galleries, readings, hands-on activities

The Local Committee's Wine Corner

A lovely tradition: the Muffendorf local committee — a civic body for the district's concerns — opens its own wine corner on the day of the festival. Here, locally grown or regional wine from Muffendorf's traditional viticulture (now preserved only on a small scale) is served — the Diederichs and Heckes families provide it every year. In addition, peach punch is served in a pavilion run by the local committee — as a casual meeting place where even long-time Muffendorf residents celebrate their connection to the district.

Free Admission — Intentionally Accessible

The Muffenale is intentionally freely accessible and low-threshold. It is a neighborhood festival, not a tourist event. Those who come are neighbors — even if they come from outside Muffendorf. This atmosphere is its charm: you can stroll down the main street, let yourself drift, have a glass of wine, eat a piece of tart, listen to a band, meet someone.

Muffendorf is located in the south of Bonn, in the Bad Godesberg district. By public transport: U-Bahn lines 16 or 63 from Bonn Hbf to Bad Godesberg, then bus line 615 or 855 to Muffendorf. By car: A 565 exit Bonn-Süd, then direction Bad Godesberg-Muffendorf. Parking is available on surrounding residential streets. Bonn is easily accessible by ICE/IC from Cologne, Frankfurt, and Hanover.
