Five days of Rhenish tradition with a 2,000 m² festival tent, King Andreas I. Sixt and Queen Vanessa Schomäker
The Bürger-Schützen-Verein Dormagen looks back on 159 years of history: founded in 1867, the club is one of the traditional marksmen's associations in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss. The annual Schützen- und Heimatfest is Dormagen's most important city event — five days of festivities from Friday, June 26th to Tuesday, June 30th, 2026, with a funfair area at Walhovener Straße in the city center.
The King Couple 2026 has already been proclaimed: Andreas I. Sixt as King and Vanessa Schomäker as Queen. They represent the BSV Dormagen during the marksmen's year and are the central figures at parades, receptions, and the King's Ball. The title of King is awarded through the King's Shoot the previous year and is a great honor in Rhenish tradition.
A special feature of the Dormagen Schützenfest is the 2,000 m² festival tent set up on the funfair grounds. It is one of the largest Schützenfest tents in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss and can accommodate thousands of guests. The tent hosts the balls, the Festkommers (festive ceremony), and large receptions.
The typical schedule of a Dormagen Schützenfest follows a long-established structure:
Alongside the Schützenfest, an extensive Kirmes (funfair) takes place on the Walhovener Kirmesplatz: Ferris wheel, bumper cars, carousels, haunted house, food stalls. Families will find all the classic folk festival elements that traditionally accompany Schützenfeste on the Rhine.
The grand parade on Sunday is the visual highlight: marksmen's companies in uniform — brass bands, drum corps, sappers with historical axes, the King Couple in ceremonial attire — march through Dormagen's city center. Thousands of onlookers line the streets. A typical Rhenish Schützenfest scene, which you'll only find with this density on a few weekends a year.
Dormagen is located in the Rhein-Kreis Neuss, on the left bank of the Rhine between Cologne and Neuss, with around 65,000 inhabitants. The city is industrially shaped (Bayer plant, Currenta), but at the same time deeply rooted in club life. The Schützen- und Heimatfest is its main cultural identity — on the Sunday parade, all of Dormagen comes to a standstill.

The grand parade on Sunday is the most visually striking moment. Those who want to see the fireworks should arrive at the Kirmesplatz on Saturday evening in good time. Families should plan for Family Day on Tuesday with discounts. The festival tent gets crowded in the evenings — table reservations through the club are recommended.
