20th edition of the spring wine festival on Schlossinsel Köpenick in southeastern Berlin
Köpenick in southeastern Berlin, with its baroque Old Town situated between the Dahme and Spree rivers, is one of the capital's most historically rich corners. Köpenick Palace on Schlossinsel is now part of the Berlin State Museums (Museum of Decorative Arts); the adjacent Luisenhain is a wooded park directly on the Spree. For two decades, both areas have served as the backdrop for the two Köpenick wine festivals: the Spring Wine Festival in April and the Wine Summer in August.
In 2026, the Köpenick Spring Wine Festival celebrates its 20th edition. Approximately 40 vintners are expected, including exhibitors from Rheingau, Mosel, Pfalz, Württemberg, Sachsen, and Saale-Unstrut, as well as international guests from France (Alsace, Burgundy), Slovenia, and Italy. A total of over 400 wines will be available for tasting – spring wines, young wines, rosé selections, and sparkling wines will be the focus of the season.
The festival runs for three days: Friday 2 PM–11 PM (last pour 10:45 PM), Saturday 12 PM–11 PM (last pour 10:45 PM), Sunday 11 AM–8 PM. On two stages – one on Schlossinsel, one in Luisenhain – cover bands, jazz combos, and acoustic sets will alternate. Admission is free; payment is made directly at the vintner stands, usually with a glass deposit system (tasting glass for a deposit). Accompanying them, craftspeople and artisans will offer regional products, along with bratwurst, cheese, tarte flambée, and vegetarian options.
Visitors to the festival should allow ample time for the historic Old Town: cobblestone streets, a town hall in neo-Gothic brick style (famous for the 'Captain of Köpenick'), burgher houses from the 17th–19th centuries, and the Spree riverbanks with moorings for excursion boats. Travel by S-Bahn S3 to Köpenick, then take tram 27 / 60 / 62 or a ten-minute walk through the Old Town.
The 20th edition of the Köpenick Spring Wine Festival will focus on spring wines: light white and rosé wines from the latest vintages, sparkling wines, and initial tastings of the 2024 red wine vintages. Exhibitors will primarily come from German growing regions, supplemented by guests from Alsace, Burgundy, the Styria-Slovenia line, and Italy (Friuli, Veneto).
The stages on Schlossinsel and Luisenhain will run in parallel: acoustic sets in the morning, cover bands at midday and in the afternoon, and slightly louder acts in the evening. The peak attendance is usually expected on Saturday afternoon.
