Colourful summer opening on Köpenick Palace Island with music, arts and crafts, organic market and petting zoo – three days, free entry
Köpenick, in the southeast of Berlin, is a small town within the city: an old town with cobblestone streets, Köpenick Palace dating from the 17th century, and the waters of Müggelsee and Dahme. The Palace Island, where the palace stands, is accessible via bridges over the Dahme and Frauentog and is one of the city's protected green spaces. In summer, it regularly becomes a festival stage, most notably during the Köpenick Summer Festival.
The festival is designed as a classic summer celebration: Several stages with live music (from folk and singer-songwriters to bands from the district), stalls with regional arts and crafts, an organic market with producers from Brandenburg, food stalls with grilled and vegetarian specialities, and a petting zoo for children. The event aims to be a meeting place for families from Köpenick and Berlin, as well as for tourists who usually spend their time in the city centre.
During the day, the family programme dominates: face painting, hands-on activities, climbing challenges, and storytelling corners. In the evening, live music and dancing take centre stage – often on the main stage by the palace. Admission to the entire festival is free, making it one of the most important free summer events in the southeast of Berlin.
Treptow-Köpenick is the largest district in Berlin by area and one of the richest in water. Visitors to the summer festival should take time to explore the old town (with the historic town hall, the setting for the 'Captain of Köpenick' story) and enjoy a walk along Müggelsee or a boat trip on the Dahme.
The Köpenick Summer Festival 2026 officially ushers in summer in Berlin's southeast from June 19th to 21st. On the Palace Island between the Dahme and Frauentog, live bands, singer-songwriters, and DJ sets will perform over three days. In front of and around the baroque Köpenick Palace, arts and crafts stalls, an organic market, and food stands will be set up – a format that has been a firm summer ritual in Köpenick for years.
For families, the festival is one of the most relaxed summer events: a children's programme with a petting zoo, hands-on activities, face painting, and small stages ensures entertainment throughout the three days. Free admission makes the event easily accessible, and the waterfront location guarantees the opportunity to combine the city festival with a walk along the Frauentog or a short boat trip.
Exact stage schedules and artist lists will be published by the Treptow-Köpenick District Office and participating organisers in the festival week.
