Traditional early summer sailing regatta in the Tromper Wiek off Glowe
The Tromper Wiek is the large bay between the peninsulas of Jasmund and Wittow, in the north of the island of Rügen. Its wide, even water surface, the reliable summer winds, and the picturesque backdrop of chalk cliffs and sandy beaches make it one of the most beautiful sailing areas in the German Baltic Sea. It is precisely here – off the small Glowe marina at Königshörn – that the Königshörn Regatta has been held for over two decades.
The regatta is one of the three stages of the Jasmund Cup, the classic of the North Rügen sailing scene:
The Königshörn Regatta thus serves as the season opener for ambitious Bodden and Baltic Sea sailors. The 23rd edition will take place in 2026.
The race is sailed on a triangular course of 2×6 nautical miles (12 nm total) in the Tromper Wiek off Glowe. The regatta is open to all boat classes – from small dinghies, Folkboats, and H-Boats to cruising yachts. A Yardstick rating ensures fair comparability between the classes.
The day begins at 10 a.m. with the skippers' briefing at the harbour, where a joint breakfast is also served. At 11 a.m., the starting signal for the regatta is given. The fleet is expected to return to Glowe around 4 p.m. Afterwards, the results will be announced in the harbour restaurant, with the award ceremony and trophy presentation. For participants, the berth in Glowe is free for one week before and one week after the regatta – a pleasant gesture from the municipality.
The Königshörn Regatta has been organized by the municipality of Ostseebad Glowe and the harbour master's office since the early 2000s. It is not only a competition but also a social meeting point for the Bodden sailing community between Stralsund, Sassnitz, Lohme, Wiek, and Putbus. Many sailors participate every year – some participations date back more than a decade.
The 23rd Königshörn Regatta opens the Jasmund Cup season on the island of Rügen on June 27, 2026. The organizer is the municipality of Ostseebad Glowe in cooperation with the harbour master's office. The 2×6 nautical mile triangular course in the Tromper Wiek off Glowe is open to all boat classes – from dinghies and Folkboats to cruising yachts.
