Concept
The Klostermarkt takes place on the historic monastery grounds around the Doberan Minster. The Doberan Monastery Association organizes the weekend with historic craftsmen, jugglers, and merchants who set up their stalls and workshops between the old monastery walls.
Program
Craft demonstrations, a medieval market with regional and supra-regional exhibitors, juggling, music, and catering in the style of the monastery era are expected. The market is aimed at families as well as lovers of historic craftsmanship and monastery architecture.
Local Context
Founded in 1171, Doberan Monastery was one of the wealthiest Cistercian monasteries in the Baltic Sea region; its Minster is one of the most important brick Gothic buildings in Northern Germany. Today, the monastery grounds in the Rostock district (Mecklenburg-Vorpommern) attract visitors from all over Germany – the Klostermarkt builds on this cultural-historical tradition.
Klostermarkt — edition 2026
On June 6th and 7th, 2026, the Doberan Monastery Association invites you to the historic monastery grounds around the Doberan Minster. Two market days will bring together historic craftsmen, jugglers, and merchants – from the blacksmith to the potter to musicians in period costumes. Tastings, demonstrations, and hands-on activities will complement the market; the brick Gothic backdrop of the Minster lends the event its unique character.

Two-day market operation on the monastery grounds:
- Historic craft stalls (blacksmithing, pottery, leatherwork, carving, textiles)
- Juggling groups, minstrels, and walking acts
- Market stalls from regional and supra-regional vendors
- Catering in historical style
- Family and hands-on program

By train to Bad Doberan, then a few minutes' walk to the Minster and monastery grounds. By car via the A20 (Bad Doberan exit).
