Guided Riesling Tour on August 22, 2026, through the steep slopes of the Trittenheim Moselle loop
The Trittenheim Riesling Tour is a guided wine hike that introduces participants to the unique steep slopes around Trittenheim. The village is located in the heart of the Middle Moselle, nestled in a distinctive Moselle loop that is one of the most photographed landscapes in the region. The route traverses top sites such as Trittenheimer Altärchen, Trittenheimer Apotheke, and Trittenheimer Leiterchen, which are considered classic Grand Cru sites of the Moselle.
At several stations along the route, Trittenheim vintners will pour their Rieslings. The range extends from dry estate Rieslings to noble sweet Spätlese, complemented by sparkling wines and occasional Burgundy varieties. Tasting at the vineyard sites allows for a direct connection between taste, soil formation, and microclimate—an "aha!" moment for beginners and enthusiasts alike.
The Trittenheim steep slopes are partly over 60 percent steep. The guided hike points out the cultivation conditions, which are only possible here by hand, and provides geological context: blue and red Devonian slate, tiny parcels, high radiation intensity due to walls and slope inclination. Panoramic views of the Moselle loop and the village of Trittenheim open up from the high trail.
After the hike, the group returns to the village center. Trittenheim offers numerous "Straußwirtschaften" (seasonal wine taverns), wine shops, and restaurants where the wines encountered during the tour can be further enjoyed. The Trittenheim Tourist Information coordinates dates and registrations for the entire program year.
The Trittenheim Riesling Tour 2026 is designed as a compact half-day excursion. Starting from the meeting point in the village center, the route leads up into the vineyards, with several tasting stations along the way and panoramic viewpoints above the Moselle loop.
The exact hourly schedule will be announced by the organizer in advance. The hike requires basic sure-footedness and sturdy footwear but is easily manageable for adults without prior experience.
The exact 2026 program will be published by the organizer in spring/summer. The structure follows the proven key points of previous years:
The tasting wines are selected in agreement with the participating Trittenheim vintners and may vary from year to year.
