Carnival Session 2025/26 of the Saarbrücken Carnival Society Saarraketen in the Festhalle Güdingen
The Große Karnevalsgesellschaft (GKG) Saarraketen was founded in 1959 in Güdingen – a district of Saarbrücken located directly on the French border. With 66 years of existence, it is one of the oldest and most active carnival societies in the Saarbrücken regional association. The opening of the 2025/26 season took place on November 15, 2025, with a celebratory ceremony and a concert by the band "Happy Sound" at the Festhalle Güdingen.
The GKG Saarraketen season comprises four main events at the Festhalle Güdingen (Saargemünder Straße 157):
The Saarraketen maintain several performance ensembles: dance groups from kindergarten to adult level, singing groups, speakers (Bütt, political impromptu speeches), and technical and decoration teams. They largely organize the gala sessions themselves – guest performances usually serve as accents.
Güdingen is located directly on the French border, opposite the French town of Sarreguemines. This location shapes the society's Saarland identity – "Saarraketen" is not just a jester's name but an allusion to the Saarland's industrial tradition (iron and steel rocket promotion) and the international position of Saarland.
The GKG Saarraketen also participate in the central Saarbrücken season opening of the VSK (Association of Saarland Carnival Societies) on November 11 and in the Rose Monday parade in Burbach on February 16, 2026. Thus, they are part of the Saarland carnival network and an important player in Saarbrücken's carnival.
The organizer is GKG Saarraketen Güdingen. Tickets are available via tickets.saarraketen.de and at Schadt Werbung Saarbrücken. The two major gala sessions tend to sell out quickly.
Tickets: Seniors' Session approx. €12–€18, Gala Sessions €20–€30, Children's Masked Ball free entry or small contribution. Advance sales via tickets.saarraketen.de and Schadt Werbung.
By Car: Take the A6 exit Saarbrücken-Eschberg or from France via Sarreguemines. By Train: Saarbrücken Hauptbahnhof (main station), then take the Saarbahn S1 or bus 121/123 to Güdingen.
Parking is available around the Festhalle Güdingen and in the side streets.
Advance sales via tickets.saarraketen.de or at Schadt Werbung in Saarbrücken. Popular sessions often sell out.
While not strictly mandatory, costumes are highly encouraged. Most guests come in disguise.
Attend the Seniors' Session (January 25) for a more relaxed format or the Children's Masked Ball (February 15) with the family. The two major gala sessions on January 31 and February 7 are the main events.
