New Music Meets Nature
The Klanglandschaften Festival is taking place for the 6th time in the Barnim Nature Park — just north of Berlin in the municipality of Mühlenbecker Land (Oberhavel district). From July 3 to 5, 2026, three locations will become spaces for sonic art experiences: Hobrechtsfelde, Schildow, and Zühlsdorf. The 2026 theme: „Planetary Responsibility — Sounding Gardens“. The focus is on the connection between New Music, field recordings, land art installations, and participatory performances with the natural environment.
Friday, July 3, 2026 — Hobrechtsfelde Granary
The festival opens at 5:00 PM in the historic Hobrechtsfelde Granary — a striking brick building on the edge of the rewetted fen. The program features a Mexican-German collaboration with flutes, percussion, and electronic music. The combination of the acoustically unique industrial space and the natural backdrop right outside makes for an impactful opening evening.
Saturday, July 4, 2026 — Schildow / Katharinensee
Saturday begins at 2:00 PM at the Katharinensee lake in Schildow. The centerpiece is the multimedia piece „Wunde(r) Erde“ (Wound/Wonder Earth), reflecting on the relationship between humans and nature, as well as the interactive garden-based work „The River“ — an instrumental dialogue between Mexican and Brandenburg landscapes. Listening walks will guide visitors along the lakeshore.
Sunday, July 5, 2026 — Zühlsdorf, Finale „bbrrmm“
Sunday in Zühlsdorf starts at 11:00 AM with family-friendly activities. The highlight and festival finale is the performance „bbrrmm“: a concert for cello and agricultural machinery — chainsaw, lawnmower, and scythe become sound bodies, entering into dialogue with the string instrument. A radical, often surprising sonic experience that challenges listening and viewing habits.
Organizers and Funding
The festival is supported by the Friends of Barnim Nature Park and organized in collaboration with local initiatives, the municipality of Mühlenbecker Land, and the Klanglandschaften artist initiative. The mix of institutional support and artistic independence allows for an experimental program that is rarely found in this form across Germany.
